i must say i do not like this piece. It clearly celebartes the tools of death. What people are getting killed with every day. And i am a bit concerned with the amount of people that think guns are "soo fucking cool". I think your time could have been occupied with better things than prasing the things that have only one purpose- to kill.

At least you have a thought, and have the enthusaism to express it.

I don't expect you to like this piece when you have your stated mentality of firearms. I am perfectly fine with that.

Since I see these devices with inherent practical applications in global politics, military, civial defence, economics, as well as aesthetics, I cannot disregard these influential tools as having only a sole purpose to kill. The social economic impact that can be achieved still haunts our military forfces today.

I am not changing my pov of guns in general. Nevertheless, I AM aware of those who argue against firearms. I will continue to train in the skill of sharpshooting and IPSC, produce images of firearms, and band with legal firearm enthusaists everywhere. Because that is my way of life.

Thanks for stopping by.

Hey, we're all do our best to preserve our way of life. You're just doing your part. Be it that there are obvious different point of views in play, there's absolutely nothing wrong with that.

I'm just glad this didn't digress into the usual nonesense you see all over DA; manga vs. anime vs. anthro vs. realist vs. whateve, you name it.

I have actually being accused of being " snotty" for not lashing out with vulgarities. Go figure... The fact someone insulted my work didn't get to me, but the doubting of my character implied by this teen really pissed me off. You know what? She wasn't even the one who criticized my work! It was a friend of someone who I replied regarding an original statement of "This is disgusting!" on one of my pixil gun series.

We'll all skilled professionals. no reason to sink to the level of run of the mill amatures that's too often seen stiring up this sort of unesessary fires.

In a way, I consider these pixel pieces more successful than the rest of my illustrations in the sense that it fires up some serieously bent up stresses that manifest in a form of colorful emotion exclimations. I'd probably get an A in my painting and theory classes for invoking this sort of response from viewers. Hell, half the BFA faculty would probably praise me for "exploring the human condition." But it was never my thing. I've always been a technicaly oriented person. Even though I have a BFA in Studio arts, commonly associated with impresionist painting style and assorted concept driven art pieces/sculptures, mine was concentrated in illustration and digital media.

All the philosophical aspects around those who got into that emotional driven genre turned me off almost instantly. I made an effort to stay away from all that, what I consider, hack job.

Point of my rant is; I see the images I post as means of exploring different methods and subject matter in order to sharpen my skills. Nothing more, nothing less.

If that is your view point fair enough. I respect you for sharing it in a mature and thoughtful way. I just felt I had to state my opinion on the piece. Other than your guns pieces I think you to be a highly talented artist. Keep posting stuff -except the guns thing(I can atleast TRY to persuade you) - so people can enjoy your work.

I agree that one of the main points of art is to provoke or inspire a reaction within people. Whether it is to uplift, sadden, anger, or depress. That is what we as artist’s struggle to do every time we create some. I feel a lot of people do not realise or appreciate this. I believe what we create often reflects who we are, and that in turn affects what we create (one big cycle). Art as you say is also every much about expressing one’s self, also exploring different ways in which to do this. I agree with what you say, and your views. The piece with the guns provoked a reaction within me (one of distaste) and by doing this I believe you accomplished your goal. Just because I do not appreciate the piece does not mean it is not good. You stuck your neck out I think, and took a risk by posting that piece, and although it was met with mainly positive comments, you took the good with the bad (i.e. my comments, once again you have gained my respect by doing this). After all life would be pretty damn boring if you didn’t take any risks. Anyway basically what I’m saying is I agree with what you and I think you say it well. That’s my rant over.

P.S. I think I might start up a petition against guns on this site, just for a bit of fun (am I kidding or am I not kidding, you decide)

lhs In reply to Heman86 [2004-02-11 21:00:20 +0000 UTC]

I know I will definitely take a look at the argments on your petition if it ever appears in my watch list. As a responsible gun enthusiast, part of my duty is being aware of the public mentality as well as shift in legal focus.

Thanks for being an intellegent individual through out this little trip through our personal ideals. If more people on DA can just think before they speak, there would be fewer complaints and bans that people always get upset about.
