Description
One morning, the Senshi came down to eat breakfast, only to find the kitchen empty and the table bare."...I don't understand" Lauren said. "Sona's always awake by now"
"Maybe she's just asleep" Andrew shrugged.
"Can you go wake her?" Kim asked. "She said she'd show me some stuff on the computer when she was awake"
"Ok then" Andrew shrugged, walking off down the hall.
He came back about a minute later with a cross look on his face and a letter in his hands.
"That jerk Cloverway has kidnapped her" he said.
"They what?!" Kim exclaimed. "But we haven't heard from them in ages!"
"SONA!" Lauren wailed, bursting into tears.
"Calm down" Andrew said. "Look, they at least gave us the address where they're keeping her. They said it's easy to find-it's a giant castle!"
"That is too easy" Kim said darkly. "I smell an insane trap"
"Well, we won't know until we get there, will we?" Hitokiri asked irritably. "Shut up, quit moaning and let's go!"
-Due to extreme writer's block, we can skip forward to something much, MUCH more interesting-
When the Senshi entered the castle, they were a little confused. There was nothing in the front room except a door leading to the rest of the castle-a room with a very high handle. Lauren noticed an envelope on the ground, and she picked it up and opened it.
"To the Senshi" she read, "Read this carefully and follow what it says, or you may end up...killed"
She read the last word in a harsh whisper, her face going pale and her eyes widening.
"I'm sure she's bluffing, Lauren-chan" Andrew said reassuringly. "Does it say anything else?"
"The rules are as follows" Lauren continued shakily. "1-you must proceed to each room one at a time. 2-anybody who fails a task will not be allowed to proceed...and if I find them I will laugh at them and then kill them"
"Once again, I'm sure she's bluffing" Andrew said firmly.
"T-That's all it says" Lauren whispered, dropping the letter. Her eyes welled with tears. "I don't wanna be killed!"
"I just want to know what she means by 'tasks'" Priscilla grunted.
"The only way we'll find out is if we go through" Hitokiri said.
"But she said one at a time..." Lauren whimpered.
"So? That's what we'll do then!"
They each went through the door. They all managed to get through...except Mikaela. She couldn't get through-simply because the handle was too high for her to reach.
"I can't get through!" she wailed.Β Β On the other side of the door, the others panicked a little.
"You what?!" Lauren cried. "What do you mean?!"
"I can't reach the handle!"
Priscilla grabbed the handle and pushed-but it wouldn't budge.
"It's locked from our end!" she yelled. "Can't you jump or something?!"
"I can jump, but I can't reach!" Mikaela shouted.
"Shit" Priscilla cursed. Nat and Kim glanced at each other.
"We'll just have to go without you then!" Nat called. "Don't get killed, ok?"
"I...I suppose!" Mikaela whimpered.
"Find somewhere good to hide and don't come out!" Lauren said. "We'll find you when we've found Sona, ok? I promise!"
"Ok..."
With that settled, the Senshi turned to see what their 'task' would be.
Once again, there seemed to be nothing in the room. The only noticeable thing was a circular hole in the roof leading to the next room, and a long rope suspended from the hole.
"I suppose we just have to climb up" Frank shrugged. "How hard can that be?"
With that, he jumped onto the rope and clambered up to the next room.
"Easy!" Priscilla grinned, quickly following. The others made it up one way or another...all except for Lauren. Not only could she not get a proper grip, but she simply did not have the physical strength to pull herself up.
"PRUE-CHA!" she squealed as she started to slide down again. "Prue-cha, Andrew, somebody! Help me!"
Tears began to well in her eyes as she heard the footsteps coming towards the hole.
"I...I can't get up!"
The second the words left her mouth a steel grating instantly slid over the circular hole, blocking all means of getting to the next room. Startled, Lauren let go of the rope and landed on the floor with a loud thump.
"Guys!" she cried. The others peered through the grating at her with panicked looks on their faces.
"Lauren-chan!" Andrew exclaimed.
"Why couldn't you pull yourself up?!" Kim snapped. "That's ridiculous!"
"You shut up!" Timika said gruffly, giving Kim a whack upside the head. Too upset to talk, Lauren simply snivelled and stared up at them all.
"Where the heck did this grate come from?!" Nat exclaimed. Priscilla pulled at the grating, but she couldn't get it to budge.
"I'm sorry, Lauren" she said at last. "You have to stay here"
Lauren's eyes widened in panic and she managed to find her words.
"NO!" she wailed. "Please don't leave me!"
"We don't have much of a choice" Frank shrugged. "We'll come back for you, I promise"
Lauren bit her lip and stared at the ground, sniffling loudly.
"All right..." she whimpered. With that, the group had no choice but to go on.
The third room had a staircase leading to the next room, and a small table with 6 papers and 6 pencils on it.
"One at a time" Hitokiri repeated, going up to the table. She massaged her temples and let out an irritated sigh when she saw what the papers were-each paper had a maths problem on it. But, to her delight, her paper had a relatively easy problem on it.
"That's easy enough" she shrugged, writing in the answer. With no reaction from the room at her answer, she assumed her answer was right and disappeared up the stairs to the next room. The other Senshi went up to the table one by one and answered the problems. Priscilla was the last one to go to the table. As she picked up the paper and looked at the problem, her face instantly drained of colour.
"Oh...oh god" she muttered. What was the problem?
'x^2 - 4x + c = 0. This equation only has one answer. Without use of a calculator, find c.'
Priscilla's face suddenly went red as she began to get angry.
"What the hell sort of a problem is this?!" she shouted. "I can't do that, NOBODY can do that!"
The second she said 'I can't', another steel grating instantly dropped down and covered the open entrance to the next room.
"What?!" she exclaimed. "Guys, it's shut on me!"
"Yeah, we kinda noticed" Nat sighed. "Same drill, Priscilla...we'll see you later"
With that the group went on, trying hard to ignore the cursing from Priscilla and the distant crying from Lauren.
Before properly focusing on the room in front of them, Nat had a sudden thought.
"What problems did you guys even have, anyway? What did you answer?" she asked. The other Senshi rattled off their questions and answers and they all seemed correct enough. All except Hitokiri's.
"I had 124x8. I said it was 868, and-" she said.
"But wait, 124 times 8 is 992, not 868!" Nat cut her off. "And it still let you through!"
"Does that mean we could have written ANY answer and it would have let us through?" Andrew asked.
"...I think it does" Timika said.
"Shit!" Kim cursed, "Why didn't we test that first?!"
"These rooms require strategy" Nat said darkly. "We can't just go ahead; we have to think about each task. And there's something else...but I can't put my finger on it"
"This is starting to creep me out a little bit" Timika admitted. "I hope we get to Sonia soon"
"I'm more worried about how we get out of here" Kim said. "The entrances to the other rooms are all shut with grates, and the others are trapped inside!"
"We'll figure something out" Andrew said, "But for now we need to try and go forward"
In front of the remaining Senshi was a table with a computer monitor and a sheet of paper. On the monitor was a bunch of random letters, a blinking cursor and a big green button with "OK" on it.
"This could be much worse than we think" Nat muttered.
"You're the computer brainbox, you go first!" Kim said loudly, pushing Nat in the back.
"Ouch! Ok, ok!" Nat snapped, running up to the screen and taking the paper into her hands.
"This is a game of Scrabble, of sorts" she read. "Arrange the letters you are provided into a word, and then press ok. If it's a proper word, then nothing will happen and you can go through"
She raised her eyebrows and put the paper down.
"That's all it says"
"Well, that sounds ok" Hitokiri shrugged. "Try it and go ahead, Nat"
"What could go wrong?" Nat agreed. Tapping the letters on the screen, she made the word 'music' and pressed the green button. Nothing happened.
"Good, then I can go!" she sighed with relief. Once she was up the stairs, the others had their turns and went up to join her. At long last, Frank went up to the screen. He saw the first few letters and thought of a word-but then he saw the letter X.
"...X?!" he exclaimed. "I...I-I can't make a word with X!"
Suddenly, a grate dropped down and covered the entrance.
"FRANK!" the others groaned.
"What did you even do?!" Kim cried.
"I couldn't make a word!" Frank grumbled. "I couldn't use all the letters!"
"...neither could I, Frank" Kim said slowly.
"Me either" Hitokiri added.
"I don't think using them all was required" Nat said quietly, but nobody else seemed to be listening.
"Hahaha!" Timika laughed. "That was pretty dumb of you then!"
"Oh, shut up!" Frank snapped. "Shut up and go ahead already!"
Laughing a little, the others did just that.
The next room had another table. The table had an A3 sized picture on it and a sheet with simple instructions. Andrew went up to it.
"This is an optical illusion" he read, "Can you see 3 faces?"
He paused and studied the picture carefully.
"...I can!" he said happily, proceeding up the stairs.
"Optical illusions are easy" Kim snickered. She easily found the faces, as did Nat and Hitokiri. Timika, however, simply couldn't. She studied the picture for several minutes, turning it in different directions and peering at it closely and from a distance.
"...What the hell!" she eventually snapped, "There aren't any faces! Well, I can't see any, anyway!"
The second the words 'I can't' left her mouth, the familiar grate dropped down and covered the entrance to the next room.
"...shit"
"What did you do?" Andrew sighed.
"I couldn't find the faces" Timika sighed back.
"HA!" came a laugh from below. "As you'd say, that was pretty dumb of you then!"
"And as you'd say-YOU SHUT UP!" Timika yelled back down. She looked up to the others. "Go on, go ahead"
"Will do" Andrew replied, and with that they set off.
The next room was completely bare except for the staircase and blood red letters on the wall that spelled out 'Can you eat lemons?'
"I could if I tried" Nat shrugged, running up the stairs. Andrew and Hitokiri nodded and ran up as well, but Kim pulled a face.
"What the hell sort of question is that?" she asked. "As if anybody could eat lemons!"
"Lauren can" Nat reminded her. "She used to eat them for lunch!"
"Well, I can't" Kim said. "That is a stupid-"
She couldn't finish her sentence though-the grates dropped down and she was trapped.
"God dammit!" she snapped. Nat, Hitokiri and Andrew shrugged at each other before going forward.
Once again, the next room was bare except for the staircase and letters on the wall. This time, they spelled out 'Can you fly?'
"With wings!" Hitokiri and Andrew answered simultaneously. They quickly bolted up the stairs. Nat, however, remained quiet.
"Aren't you gonna answer?" Hitokiri asked.
"I'm THIS close to figuring something out..." Nat muttered. She raised her voice. "I can't fly"
To Hitokiri and Andrew's surprise, Nat grinned when the grates came down.
"Why are you grinning?" Hitokiri asked, "You're trapped!"
"I know, but now I've figured it out!" Nat cried. "There's a key to all this!"
Andrew and Hitokiri paused.
"...what is it?" Andrew asked.
"Whether we can pass the tasks or not is completely irrelevant" Nat said, "It's admitting we CAN'T that's causing the grates to cover the entrances!"
"What do you mean?" Hitokiri asked.
"Think about it!" Nat continued. "Lauren said she couldn't climb the rope and the grate closed. If we had pulled her up and helped her, she could've gotten through. You got the maths thing wrong and nothing happened, but Priscilla said 'I can't do this' and the grates closed! Frank said 'I can't' about the Scrabble thing...the list goes on!"
"And of course you only figured this out after the grates had closed on YOU" Hitokiri sighed.
"I know...shitty timing" Nat said, but she smiled anyway. "But I hope that helps you"
"It should" Andrew said confidently. "Thank you"
With that, the two remaining Senshi turned to see what the next task would be.
There was nothing in the room but a staircase and two large speakers protruding from the wall. Sensing that the speakers were anything but good, Hitokiri reached up to her ears and shut off her cochlear implant. Confused by that, Andrew moved so that Hitokiri could see his face.
"Why did you do that?" he asked. Hitokiri simply shrugged. Andrew was about to persist when suddenly, loud dance music began to blast from the speakers. So loud that Lauren could hear it 6 floors below. So loud that Mikaela, who had gone outside because the first room was so boring, could hear it. Andrew yelled in pain and dropped to his knees, covering his ears as tightly as he could. Hitokiri, feeling the vibrations and figuring out what was going on, smiled wryly.
"I can do that" she whispered, disappearing up the stairs.
Once in the next room, she saw nothing but a long, spiralling staircase. Once at the top, she opened the door...and found Sonia at last.
In the room was a big double bed, where Sonia was fast asleep. She looked unharmed and completely safe, to which Hitokiri sighed with relief. Tentatively turning on her implant again, she sighed again when she found that the music had stopped.
"Sonia" she said, sitting on the bed and giving Sonia a light shake. "Sonia, wake up"
Sonia opened her eyes a crack-then she seemed to realise what was going on and sat bolt upright in the bed.
"What? What?!" she exclaimed. "Where am I?!"
"You got kidnapped, remember?" Hitokiri asked.
"...no, I don't remember at all!" Sonia replied. "Where is everyone? What's going on?!"
"Never mind that for now" Hitokiri said. "If we use Sailor Teleport, we'll get everyone home and then we'll explain from there"
"Ok..."
The two girls grabbed their henshin pens and held them in the air.
"SAILOR TELEPORT!" they yelled, disappearing from the room without a trace-taking the rest of the Senshi with them, of course!
Everybody rematerialised in the Senshi's living room. When they saw Sonia, they all reacted in different ways.
"SONA-CHA!!" Lauren shrieked, throwing herself at Sonia and clinging tightly to her. "KITTY!"
Sonia smiled slightly and hugged her best friend back.
"Calm down" she said.
"I'm going to KILL Cloverway the next time I see her!" Priscilla shouted.
"Me too, Prue. Me too"
"I'm so glad you're ok!" Andrew cried.
"Me too" Sonia repeated. The others just smiled and sighed with relief, for their surrogate mother was safe back home with them and nobody had died. For once.
(and now, I've run out of ideas! 8D)
