"Oh, Star Crossed! Hello!" Twilight Velvet chirped as she spotted her sister pushing through the crowd of ponies, all bustling about the buffet. Her daughter, Twilight Sparkle, looked down at the heart shaped cookies, half dipped in chocolate, and picked one up in her magic, taking a bite out of it.
Star Crossed, barely looking in their direction, replied in a soft, yet curt tone, "Ah, yes, hello, Velvet".
Velvet was taken aback by this tone, yet not the least bit surprised. She'd noticed that Star Crossed had grown distant and bitter towards her recently. Thing is- she had no idea why. She'd thought back on every interaction within the past six months and nothing stuck out. Still, she pushed on, trying to force at least a little conversation between her and her older sister.
"How are you doing?" She plastered what she hoped was a convincing smile on her face. She needn't bother, for Star Crossed didn't bother looking over as she mumbled out a small, "Eh, fine".
Finishing her cookie, Twilight Sparkle was quietly stewing away. How dare this sow of a mare talk to her mother this way. What gave her the right? Velvet had always tried to be nothing but a good little sister to Star Crossed, why be so....rude!
Something that she also noted was that Star Crossed was yet to even acknowledge her presence, like she was but a figment of her mother's imagination. This, however bothered her way less. Probably for the best Twilight thought blithely. Since Shining had got a girlfriend recently, she did dread the classic "When are you going to bring somepony home?" talk. Best to be ignored
She thought of all this as she watching her Aunt Star Crossed breeze pass them, off to find her husband no doubt.
"Ah...," Velvet exclaimed softly, then turned to her daughter, "well, how about we head to the garden, dear. Auntie Shine Bright's meeting us there".
Suited Twilight just fine. Shine Bright had always been her favourite aunt anyway.
