Well... I had this idea stuck in my head for quite some time. I think it was inspired by a comment? Not sure, it dates back to the before-the-whole-portfolio-mess September so yeah. But seriously... Assassin AND a pirate? I'm not impressed. Sure, it's cool, but kinda far fetched. As they say, you can serve only one master, that being either you yourself and selfish pirate life OR the cause. And I don't know if any of you've noticed, but the whole Brotherhood stopped being a thing after the first game, which had probably the most self-centered protagonist of all. Still, there was the Creed, feathers that actually meant something besides an annoying collectible, a hierarchy in which we had to fit in somewhere because we were a part of it. And then we get Ezio... Don't get me wrong, I love Ezio and his ass is still a very close call to Altair's, but his motivation was revenge, pretty much - some save-the-world thrown in as a bonus. And as the games progressed, he was only getting more and more badass... which made him less. Liiike, with Altair we had some serious character building. And Ezio kinda barges in, kills them all with double blades, his pistol and a crossbow, then single-handedly rebuilds the Brotherhood. Yeah right. Catch me coz I'm gonna swoon.
I'm not even gonna comment on Connor. I'm NOT. Poor thing, he had such a potential.
Now, I haven't played ACIV yet. Let's say, for personal reasons. So I might be utterly wrong, though I don't suspect I am. After all, the timeframe makes sense and all that XDDD
This shit took so long. I was pissed at first but then I realized my usual comics have one third or fourth of the characters I had to draw here... so yeah, kinda made sense for it to take longer. Still, took longer than it should have. Not to mention a blue screen of death that happened in the meantime... quite lovely. Quite fucking far from a checkpoint. Oh well, I made peace with the fact I won't get enough sleep today anyway.
If you have any issues with details being off or sloppy, please shut the fuck up. These outfits gonna kill me someday.
PS: I'm so friggin proud of Edward's face in the last panel XD Not exactly what I had in mind, but...

As amusing as it is, I still blame Edward. I've yet to play AC Rogue tho, then maybe I'll change my mind. So far, I don't think Shay could've caused that much damage... (riiiiiiiiight. I'll probably find these words pretty ironic later on.)

An assassin being a pirate at the same time is far fetched? Yeah, and the whole Apple of Eden thing is totally in the realm of existence.

There is a term for that: believability. You can come up with the wildest of things, worlds of fantasy and wonder and yet the viewer might be so caught up in the story they will actually think it makes sense. We're not discussing whether the fairies exist or not here. Then again, you might write about the plain ol' world something so utterly bizzare everyone will stop to think "hey, that would never happen. there is not an instance of the universe where it would. it makes no sense".
Now, being a pirate AND an Assassin isn't nearly so definitely impossible, however, I do feel it's highly improbable. The essence of being a pirate is a contradiction to what the Assasssins believe, at least that's how I feel about it. You're either one or the other. I mean, how seriously would you take a guy who claims to be both christian and pagan?

Techincally Edward doesn't identify as an assassin, or a templar. As he never really becomes an official member of either, at least not that I've gotten to, though i havent beaten the game yet cuz my Xbox is broken. But yea Edward wasn't actually an assassin he just worked with them to achieve a mutual goal.

I believe he does identify as an Assassin after the events presented in the game, more a little before and during the events of "Forsaken" (when he's back in England). It's been a little while since I posted this comic and yes, I've managed to catch up on ACIV in the meantime : ) It only surprised me how spot-on this comic still is XD Didn't know it was actually THAT accurate.

If you guys and ladies, want my opinion all of the AC characters are far than perfect, I mean, they have nearly impossible battle skills, a charming personality every one in his way but that won't make them perfect. They make mistakes -and I'm not talking about falling down from some roof and ending up Assassin jelly- and pay dearly for them. Being awesome doesn't mean being perfect and sometimes badassery is just a cover-up. They are all broken people in a way or another. Just to say...
Beside all the sentimental fangirl's rant, awesome work! Love their faces! So damn cute and funny! Having quite a bad day but those precious idiots made it somewhat better. Thanks for the cool comic and really hope you can make more of them

I'm not sure if I should be ashamed to admit the fact that out of all the characters in the AC series, Haytham reigns being my favorite |D He was the first one I played as (My brother had gotten AC3 before we managed to get ACB *which, so far, are the only one's I've actually played-- but, I have read about some of the characters though!*)
I still don't wanna kill him ;;

I think Edward's is not the best Assassin but he iscertainly the most interessing, because he was actually the only one who freely chose to embrace the Creed from the very start. Altaïr was born into the Brotherhood, Ezio was forced to join it because of his family's death and his need of Revenge, and Connor was forced by Juno and never totally understood what was happening. But Edward made his decision by himself, after a lot of thinking.
Pirates and Assassins are not that different, all living for liberty and freedom. The thing is pirates are way more sarcastic and realistic about it : they know they have to earn their freedom in such an harsh world. They have to fight for themselves, to show they are proud of their choices, to basically scream «Fuck you» to the world. They saw the worst of humanity and, in their mind, nobody is innocent, you're either with them or against them. That's why they don't care about killing «innocent» people, after all they are the « system » they reject. Assassins are more naïve, their concept of freedom is beautiful yet impossible to apply in such a world. And Edward quickly understood that, that's why he mocked them at the beginning. Then, he truly began to thing about it thanks to Ade and Mary.
In Assassin's Creed I and II, the Creed is a large concept, but in Assassin's Creed III and IV, it's way more personnal. The concept of Brotherhood don't work anymore in such egocentric societies, and neither can the Creed. You really have to take it and make it your own, it's way more dangerous yet interessing. Because here is the true liberty Assassins want to give to the world : the right to make your own decisions and choices. The fact Edward «creates» his own Creed is the proof he totally understood it I think.
And the fact his son became a Templar is the proof he did a very good job at teaching him to think for himself. That's why the Creed is so dangerous and impossible to apply. I think the concept is really fascinating and Assassin's Creed IV was brillant about it.

A lot of my mates thinks, that Altaïr was boring and stuff. But the first part was in my opinion the best. Like you said, we served thr creed because of the creed not because I use creed to get what I want.

Edward made me laugh in the last panel, yet it's so true..... The old assassins were always the best, and yet somehow Connor can be a helluva lot more better than his grandfather. Edward is pretty much a pirate, he just killed an assassin and took his outfit, end of story.

That's funny cause through most of the game he's not even an assassin, he just took an assassin's outfit after he killed him. i guess I'm one of the few that like Edward. I think he's a badass and Black Flag is my favorite AC game yet.
