Description
EDIT: Thanks for the DD!This is the product of an ImagineFX monthly challenge. I have grown quite a bit by doing this piece. Honestly, I have no idea how long this took me. I spent a couple of hours just researching things like guns and spent a while mocking up thinks like the ship in the background in separate files. It took me back to my college art 110 class which taught construction/perspective drawing. It really came in handy!
Drawing ships and mech armor is not my forte, so I focused on what I could do first- portraits. I added a human element to an otherwise very cold theme. Overall I am pleasantly surprised at the outcome. Expect more of this style of art in the future.
Thanks for looking!

I like your composition very much, seemingly spontaneous like an action photo, but well-balanced and full of depth.

This is absolutely gorgeous! I adore your attention to detail - the planet's reflection off her helmet and the lighting from the explosions off her armour particulary catch my attention. You are a true master of faces! The few tiny wrinkles in the character's forehead speak volumes. Everything is wonderful! The more I stare at it the more I find I love it! A true masterpiece. Thanks so much for sharing this!!

The coloring is fantastic. That goes without saying, but the expression you captured on the girl's face is outstanding!

Saw this in the contest & thought it was fantastic. I personally didn't feel like it hit the theme as well as others did (I don't see the actual spaceport), but it is beautifully painted nevertheless.

Hey thanks. Yeah I can see where you are coming from there. My take was that there is human element to the space port, otherwise it has no meaning. At least, that was how I saw it. But thanks for the compliment. It's nice to know I am making progress (been digitally painting now for 6 months).
It's a shame I didn't pick up digital painting when I was in art school. One class was not enough.

Yus... I have been playing around with pretty fairies and boring static poses for too long... (granted it's just been to learn how to digitally paint). Now that I know what I am doing a little better, it's time to do some *real* attempts...

Thanks Eacone01. Your illustration is my favorite in the challenge so far!
Quick question, how does voting go over there? I mean, for instance, can you vote for your own piece Eacone01? I think yours should be in the top 3, but I don't know if they would discount that if you voted for yourself.

The preliminary work paid off big time! The perspective is really pleasing to the eye and I love the foreground element being the close up of a face. She does add much needed warmth to the whole piece and brings it altogether nicely. I love science-fiction and this is definitely a fave. Your 'dangerous' art persona should be let out more often.

Lol, I only meant dangerous as in I am getting dangerous with a wacom tablet- I am competent now. It was a term we had in my digital illustration class 3 or 4 years ago (before I was serious about it and I didn't learn how to paint nearly as well as I could have if I had taken the class again).
But thanks. Yes, I am going to do a kick butt character next, for the DA fantasy contest.

I get ya! The term works in either case I suppose, lol. It's great when you realise you've hit a personal accomplishment though.
Can't wait for the next one. Good luck for the contest!!

lol, it imidiately reminded me of Cryptcrawlers' (Brad Rigney's) painting. [link]
but anyway...nice piece, there's just one thing. How the hell is the girl able to breath in space without her helmet on?

Lol, yeah right. I wish I were comparable to Cryptcrawler!
And it's just a window, not an open door. Perhaps I should put some reflections on it to make it look more obvious?

i guess just keep practicing on tech stuff, cos your portraits are really cool
ooooh it's a window....i'm so stupid xD And yeah it would definitely help if there were some reflections. But glass can be tricky to paint, eh?
anyway take care.
