Description
Rebecca hurried along, eager to meet up with her fellow Poppies at lunch. She entered the courtyard, spotting them sitting at a table and waved. Suddenly movement from the garden hedge nearby caught her attention, and Rebecca paused. With a yell, a shape burst from the foliage. Rebecca stumbled backwards, her frill fanning out in shock, and she fell screaming. The figure loomed over her, it's hands tipped with black claws, and it's face scarred and twisted. It yelled again and raised it's talons, peeling away at it's face.
"Got ya! Happy Halloween!"
Rebecca blinked as she looked at Austin the cat as he held the mask in his hands and laughed at her. Rebecca's jaw set, and fear was quickly replaced with anger. She got to her feet, her body shaking.
"YOU ROTTEN BUGGER! YOU FILTHY LITTLE DIPSTICK!"
Austin gasped at Rebecca's tirade, her normally posh cutlured voice slipping to reveal her natural Downunda accent.
"How dare you do that to me?" she continued. "You're an absolute drongo! Do you have a few roos loose in your top paddock you goose?"
Rebecca's face reddened, and Austin looked around. He never expected her to react like this. None of the other people he had pranked had ever acted like this to a simple Halloween joke.
"Rebecca, I-I-I'm sorry," he stammered. "It was only a joke. It's Halloween you know. A little scare is what most people expect."
"Well I'm not 'most people'!" Rebecca hissed, straightening out and smoothing down her frill. "Deadset. I'm from Downunda you dill. We don't do Halloween there."
She looked Austin in the eye, her teeth clenched.
"If you ever play sillybuggers like that to me again, I swear I'll job ya so hard your head will spin. Now RACK OFF!"
Austin nodded, not completely sure of what Rebecca was saying, and quickly ran off, deciding there were other places he really needed to be. Rebecca closed her eyes and took a series of deep breaths to try and calm down. When she looked again, she noticed the other Poppies were watching her. As calmly as she could, the frilled-neck lizard walked over to them, her cultured tones returning to her speech.
"Hello girls, I'm so sorry you had to witness that," she said.
She smiled, once more the posh Poppie she knew she was.
"So, what news does everyone have today..?"
