Description
You pull your knees to your chest, gazing up at the stars. You sit outside the prison and pretty much everyone has gone to bed, leaving the courtyard quiet and peaceful. The embers from the dying fire keep you warm. You feel a presence next to you and you glance up to see Bob."Hey," he smiles, "Mind if I join you?"
You return his smile and shrug. "Sure."
Bob sits next to you, resting his arms on his knees, and chuckles softly to himself.
"What?" you ask, amused.
He shakes his head. "Nothing. It's just that, you're the most cheerful person I've come across in this place."
"Oh," you laugh. "Like wise." You grin at each other for a moment before Bob turns his gaze to look at the stars.
"Beautiful," he says wistfully.
You nod, looking at the stars too. "I know. I like to come out here a lot. Sometimes, I can pretend everything is normal. And at the very least, I'm reminded some things never change. The walkers can't take away the beauty of nature."
"No," Bob agrees. He glances at you. "Or people," he adds, grinning.
You blush. "If I didn't know better, I'd say you're flirting with me," you tease.
"I am," Bob admits shamelessly. "Is it working?"
"A little," you smile. He laughs softly, looking at the ground.
"I'll have to try harder," he says.
"Please do," you laugh.
"Alright...." Bob pauses, thinking. Then he points up at the sky, to the brightest star there. "That star has gotten nothing on your smile," he says finally, nudging your shoulder with his.
"Impressive," you grin. Your eyes meet Bob's and his are full of laughter. Finally you met a guy here that could laugh a little.
"Really," you say, "thank you. I haven't laughed this much in so long."
Bob shrugs sheepishly, grinning. "Before this mess, I used to woo girls with my jokes. Now....well, they're a little tougher to crack."
You laugh again, before you ask seriously, "Did you have someone before?"
Bob shakes his head. "Nah. I flirted a lot, but no one special. You?"
"No," you say. "I never dated much."
Bob peers up at you. "Now that's surprising."
"Yeah?" you ask softly.
"Yeah," he returns, leaning closer to you. The firelight flickers across his face, lighting up his handsome face. He presses his lips to yours and you kiss softly for a moment. It's the sweetest kiss you've ever had and you never want it to end. When it does, you both pull away, smiling at each other. Then you rest your head against his shoulder and he presses a kiss to the top of your head. You sit in comfortable silence, enjoying each others' company.
