Planete SauvageΒ is a masterpiece, but LaLoux did Gandahar and Les Maitres du temps in a very similar mould. Dark Crystal is unlikeΒ any other Henson movie; not even LabyrinthΒ (which I LOVE) is on the same level of originality and technical mastery.

I just like the hands-on approach of Fantastic Planet, with the cut-out animations. You can see that it's hand made in a very complex way.

The TV series is also great, it improves on many aspects of the original film.Β

If you manage to scrounge up the time you definitely should. I would even go on to say that it was one of the few live action series I've enjoyed recently, especially seeing as it came from Netflix of all places. It has some flaws, but the pros vastly outweigh them.Β

It seems to be a tremendously ambitious project. I'm glad they made it work.

Yes, I have to say I have always found the story in this movie weak but I feel the special effects and world building makes up for it

I like the story. It's as simple as it needs to be to work as material for a possible myth or legend.

Some have called Dune Star Wars for adults, but Iβve come to believe Dark Crystal fits that mold better. Both series touch on many of the same themes, but Dark Crystal and Age of Resistance handle them in a sensible, mature fashion without the infantilism and bloat.

And the world presented in the Dark Crystal movie and series is without a doubt a complete world, ready for exploration.

I have seen the first three episodes so far...
Around a good 98% percent of the characters are puppets; they only seem to use CGI for creatures or shots that couldn't feasibly be done with hands. Watching the original and new show back-to-back they basically nailed the look, feel and tone of the former while expanding on the world and storytelling, so I would very much recommend checking it out.

I've heard from quite a few people that this scene scared their kids, or themselves when they were kids.

Yep. And I apologize for going a little overboard when I mentioned about Nessie's DNA. It really irritates me whenever skeptics had to be so doubtful over something that potentially is a new species.

I saw it in a US cinema way back in 1986, when it first came out. I also bought the movie book and other stuff that was published about it at the time. Then I saw it at a special screening in England some years ago, with a mostly female audience who'd had a bit too much to drink. They screamed their heads off every time David Bowie came onto the screen.

Cool! Hahaha! Oh, the horror!
I was never a super fan of how Bowie looks, thought I love the movie and all the over the top stuff.
