Illustration for the upcoming "Dragon Song" book from SQP. Did three illustrations, but this was my favorite.You may recognize the baby dragon - [link] though he's not on fire in this version

Love the whole image. Lighting and shadow and her skin tone are all great, but that smile is absolutely infectious.

And that is what really matters.
The whole face is really vibrant and happy. The character seems genuinely happy, not just painted that way, if you take my meaning.

A Chick in Chainmail, a cute little dragon, a big bad dragon and all that together in a great storytelling scene with crisp clear details and amazing atmosphere - what is not to love here?

Thanks man! I was fortunate enough to have a friend pose as the hand and face model for all three of the 'Dangerous Curves' girls, but had no one reference for the woman in this painting, rather a whole bunch of pictures and made up stuff.

I wanted that sunshine through hair glow and blond just seemed to be the best colour. Its funny, most of the women in my sketchbooks tend to have dark coloured hair, but I've gone through a stage of painting blondes a lot lately.
Not sure what it means.

Either the big one is keeping an eye on the princess, making sure she doesn't get up to anything, or watching the little dragon and making sure it's not talking to strange princesses.
