Description
cleaning up some doodles, i have a bad habit of doodling on loose bits of paper instead of in my sketchbook. These are all ideas that I mean to get to later, but I often misplace them or forget them. I'm compiling a few of them into some big rescued-idea piles. Here's one.
1.-2) Concept art for Chrysalis and her daughter, Iridescence. Their human forms are simply an illusion wrapped around their true bodies like a protective shell. If they become love-starved, their human form begins to splinter and crack, revealing more and more of their insect exoskeleton (typically starting at the fingertips), until they've lost their humanity. They're both veeeery rarely seen in their true form. Irie doesn't drop her illusion unless absolutely necessary (eg. desire to feed overrides her free will), or sometimes, just sometimes.....in the private presence of very close friends and family. Chrysalis keeps human because she knows it makes the citizens less trusting of her otherwise, but she has no qualms about shape-shifting into her seven-foot-tall insectoid form to intimidate some uppity aristocrats. As said by one of my delightful patrons- Celestia, upon witnessing Chryssie's true form: Ah yes, wife material.
3.) As mentioned before, Huck and Belle are a trashy obnoxious couple made of two trashy obnoxious people. They've both probably been waiting their entire lives for a target to shamelessly dote on, so they're not gonna let things like common decency get in the way of public butt-grabbin and tonsil hockey. Especially in front of Magnolia. But underneath their shamelessness is an honest, curiously wholesome sort of affection.....who cares if other ponies cringe at their nose nuzzling and flower bouquets? Neither of them has ever been in love before- if fact, each spent most of their lives doubting whether love was ever even in the cards for them- so now that they've finally found somepony that makes them happy, it's a thing to be celebrated, muzzle nuzzles and all.
4.) I got some questions about how Huck feels about Belle being both non-binary and intersex, considering he held some close-minded views in his youth. Well, to put it simply, Huck mostly felt rattled at Belle's unapologetic approach to self-expression and gender non-conformity. It gives him a lot to think about and he's high key flustered at Belle's confidence. Later on in the relationship, Belle provides a safe place for Huck to explore aspects of himself that he probably wouldn't have touched on otherwise. Basically Huck is a very happy boi rn

I'd love seeing his personality when he's not defensive and is able to chill; like how you said he and Bruce couldn't even be themselves around eachother, It's really nice to see that he has those qualities and is actually able to let himself chill around someponies. I meant that it was just really nice to see them having a safe space to be themselves and that i'd love to see more like that :0!

Ah. I guess that'd be present in his future relationship with Bruce (and by proxy, Stormy and Magnolia). Adult Bruce is no longer putting up so much of a mean macho front, so Huck mirrors that and relaxes somewhat, and they begin a genuine friendship.
He's also pretty relaxed around his younger siblings (not so much the older ones, who enjoy antagonizing and belittling Huck), and of course Belle.

Didn’t you say that Huck was the eldest of his sibling (in sibling feud). Not trying to be picky or anything, I was just wondering if you had rewritten the hc

He is the oldest. :> But his siblings range in age from like 4 (Critter being the youngest), to like....29, if we're assuming Huck is in his early thirties here. Even though they're all Huck's "little" siblings, most of them are adults by now. With various mundane jobs, abandoned dreams....and criminal records, in some cases. The older siblings resent Huck for going off and making something of himself, they (and Huck's parents as well) thus try to cut him down constantly. The younger sibs (Critter, Plum, and Snapper) have yet to be engulfed in this toxicity, so they're the only ones Huck can have a decent relationship with.

Sorry for meddling in this comment. When you said Critter, Plum and Snapper have "yet" to be engulfed in the toxicity of the family, I was wondering... Will they ever come to hate Huck? Does Huck fear that the three of them could possibly begin hating him too? (since they're the last ones that are still willing to have a relationship with him).
Also, would Huch ever think of perhaps taking custody of the younger siblings? Like, taking them away from that toxic environment and actually giving them a chance at life or something. I mean, he's a lawyer so I assume that if he wanted he could pretty much do it.

Eh. It's possible. Huck isn't a super kind or charitable person. While I see him empathizing with his little sibs stuck at home, I'm not certain he, out of the goodness of his heart, would want to adopt multiple young children. That's a big commitment. It'd certainly disrupt his way of living, his relationship with Belle. Neither he nor Belle want kids- so to suddenly have three very noisy, needy children.....it'd be a lot. I could see Huck struggling with this, trying to measure his wants vs his siblings' needs.....isn't the whole reason he moved to Canterlot was to get away from his family demanding things of him?
Then there's the issue of if the kids would even want to go. Plum and Critter are still young, they'd both still be pretty attached to their parents. Idk if Snapper is as attached to his folks, but it'd probably feel like a betrayal to ditch them for the big city. Still, Snap probably gets picked on a lot by the older siblings, so he might be more open to leaving.
If Huck ever did try for custody, I can't imagine his parents wouldn't put up a fight. They're known for fighting, so why wouldn't they struggle tooth and nail to keep their children? Maybe even pack the kids up and move and never contact Huck again. The older adult siblings would have no problem threatening or even assaulting Huck if they thought the family was under threat. Custody would be difficult to even acquire- the kids aren't in immediate danger, they're not starving, they're not being abused. They're just poor. I'm not sure Huck could win based on him just having a bigger income.
So yeah, it'd be a big complicated mess. I see Huck being protective of his younger siblings, buying them necessities and toys, and often taking them for fun weekends and outings- but no, not demanding custody. It's entirely possible they could resent him for that, for having the power to "rescue" them but choosing not to. Then again, they might not, and instead view him as the one saving grace of their childhood. I dunno!
In any case, Huck lets his siblings know that if they ever need him, he'll be there~

Ok let me just start off by saying I love everything about this post and the concepts for everything. Now, I cannot say this enough I love your art so much and you are my favorite artist when it cones to ponies and such because I love all the your takes on the characters, the stories, the ships, everything. Not to mention your art is amazing?? I would die to have art this good and I always look forward to your next post. After I started following you I got back into MLP/ponies in general and started reworking and redesigning my old pony characters and it's slowly becoming an issue. ^^"
Enough of the sappy stuff can we all just admire Chrysalis? She's beautiful. 10/10 would put a ring on it.,

aaa Belle and Huck are quickly climbing the ranks of my fav Pandoraverse ships--- they might even be just below Sharknado now
mostly because I absolutely love how you portray Belle's genderfluidity- its so rare I find a character with an identity I can fully relate to. and the fact Belle found a person in love with them and who they are and then they can both be themselves fully without any judgement or shame is beautiful and I love it <333
thanks for showing this kind of stuff, Lop! Its really important and it helps even a little with some peoples validation!!
