Description Here I stand in the shores of my life
Looking out to the deep blue sea,
It's waves crashing and foaming
Like the gnashing of teeth,
Waters haunting, cold and deep,
The salt rising in the air
Filling it with the dread of despair.
I try not to look at the skies,
Brewing the meanest of storms
Throwing the hardest of hails
Flashing with menacing light,
Or at the land I must leave behind,
Once so promising, so green,
And yet now dry and lifeless
So leave, I must, I know for sure.
But I look at the ocean again,
Mercilessly churning its waters.
Hands gritty with sand and salt
Heart trembling with every thunder
Head bowed, yet standing tall
I prepare my boat as I wonder
My chances, how good are they?
Will I find a home away from home,
Or be lost in the world all alone?
Will I find lands afar, rich and fine,
Or be swallowed by the foaming brine?
I prepare my boat with twigs and vine
I prepare my boat with hope.
