Description

This is part of a story I am working on. The 6 people here are part of a hard rock band called Ashes Of The Dawn

From left to right:

Neil Kazanov, lead guitarist.

Age: 22

Neil’s parents enjoyed classical music, and his older brother taught him guitar. His parents didn’t like the more rock-type music as much as Neil, but they recognized his talents, and sent him to college in the hopes of succeeding. Neil still longed to be a rockstar, and so he practiced after class in his dorm room. Jack and Neil lived in the same dorm at college. Jack was majoring in electrical engineering like his dad, and built custom foot pedals and guitars. One day, Neil heard Jack shredding, and the two of them began practicing together. They uploaded a cover of Through The Fire And Flames, which went viral. They decided to form a band, and took a trip to America where they found the other members.

Neil is calm and smart, often seen as the voice of reason. However, he tends to get wild sometimes, especially with Jack. He is dedicated to his style, but can be stubborn as a result. He is focused on his craft, and he and Jack write most of the band’s songs. However, this sometimes leads to the others feeling like they don’t have a say. He is close with Jack, the other guitarist of the band. He speaks English and Russian.

Jack Sokolov, lead guitarist.

Age: 22

Jack’s grandpa taught him guitar, and Jack spent the summers with his grandparents. His grandpa was a folk musician for a Ukrainian band, but the Soviet Union arrested them for making an anti-Soviet song. The band was forced to break up after their lead singer was executed in order to protect the other members and their families. Jack and Neil lived in the same dorm at college. Jack was majoring in electrical engineering like his dad, and built custom foot pedals and guitars. He joined a group called Midnight Fire, but the group became more overtly left-wing, and the drummer painted a hammer and sickle on his kick drum. Jack was furious that they were idolizing the Soviets, so he left the band. Jack met Brenton (the keyboardist) while he was touring with Midnight Fire. Brenton was on vacation in Poland, and he wanted to join the band. Jack liked his style, and he kept in contact with Brenton.

He is adventurous and competitive, sometimes seen as the “troublemaker” of the group. He embraces the stereotypical “rock and roll lifestyle”, but he is very loyal to his bandmates, and wants to keep the band successful. Despite his personality, he is often sensitive, and struggles with emotional vulnerability, using his wild lifestyle as a way to ignore his problems. He is also somewhat volatile, and can be dangerous when angry. He is close with Neil, the other guitarist in the band.

Dylan Walker, singer.

Age: 24

Dylan was a good singer, but his parents wanted him to get a job. He learned the banjo and acoustic guitar from his dad, since bluegrass and country were popular in his town. His dad was in a group that failed, and so he’s worried that Dylan might fail too. But when he hears Dylan’s skills, he decides to let him pursue a career. Dylan made a more rock-sounding album with the band that is more successful, but the band thinks he is compromising their musical integrity, so he quit. He answered an ad for a band, and became a member of it.

He’s charismatic and confident on stage, but offstage he’s somewhat introverted. He’s a natural leader, has a strong work ethic, and works well with the other band members, but he sometimes has problems with opening up to them. He enjoys the spotlight, and is a natural showman as well. He tends to be a perfectionist, which leads to disagreements. Dylan's desire to be seen as strong and invulnerable often leads him to suppress his inner doubts and insecurities.

Tim Johnson, drummer

Age: 27

Tim was in marching band during high school playing the trumpet, but he soon fell in love with the drums after meeting a drummer at a music festival. He’d often stay after school with his music teacher, who taught him drums. He made his own drum kit at home to practice on, and got a job to pay for a drum kit. Tim attended college in NYC, and plays drums on the streets for crowds. Neil and Jack (the guitarists) like his style, and decide to recruit him. Tim is reluctant, but decides to play a gig for them. The gig is successful, and Tim decides to stay. Payton, the bassist, meets Tim in a bar after being kicked out of a jazz ensemble, and Tim, feeling bad for him, brings him to a practice. Neil and Jack decide to recruit him so the two of them can play guitar.

Tim is energetic, and is usually seen as the daredevil of the group. However, he is also very disciplined and focused. He is very loyal to his friends, and underneath his “wild” exterior, he’s kind of a softie. He is the backbone of the band, musically and emotionally, and he takes this responsibility seriously. He occasionally grapples with the pressure of this, and worries about living up to people’s expectations.

Brenton Davis, keyboardist

Age: 26

Brenton’s mother taught him piano when he was young. He got bored of it until he learned about keyboards. So for Christmas that year, he got a Korg keyboard. He liked the more synth-like sound, and his parents liked that he was still technically learning piano. Brenton used humor as a way to deal with life’s problems. He’d write funny songs with his keyboard, and became somewhat popular at school. Brenton met Jack (the guitarist of the band) while he was touring with another band. Brenton was on vacation in Poland, and he wanted to join the band. Jack liked his style, and he kept in contact with Brenton. Later, Brenton was brought in when AOTD needed a keyboardist for a competition in Japan, and people like Brenton’s sense of humor. The others decide to keep Brenton, and officially become a band.

Brenton is the comedian of the group. He’s quick with jokes and banter, and he likes to pull pranks on his other bandmates. However, his jokes and pranks sometimes backfire and cause problems for the band. He uses humor as a way to deal with his problems and insecurities, as well as a way to help others be happier, but this prevents him from confronting the issues of his past. He is Australian.

Payton Brooks, bassist

Age: 20

Payton grew up in a more diverse part of New York, and learned the bass from an older Black guy who played in a funk band in the 80’s. Payton is drawn to the world of jazz, and began playing in jazz clubs. Payton eventually joined a high-class jazz group, but the group turns out to be cruel and very cutthroat. He does his best to stay with them, but is kicked out. He met Tim (the drummer) in a bar, and Tim, feeling bad for him, brings him to a practice, and the other band members decide to recruit him.

(No one remembers the bass player.)

Payton is “the quiet one” of the group, meaning he’s forgotten about sometimes. But he is also intelligent and relaxed, helping keep the band together during tough times. Payton is a deep thinker, often reading books, and as a result he has an unusual creativity. He tends to be more of an observer in the band’s adventures, but he has an unmatched skill for problem solving. He has many unknown talents, and is often a good anchor for the band and the bandmates)
