Description It was a few days later when a letter arrived in Ari’s mail congratulating the duo on their team being officially being approved by the guild leader, and telling them to head down to the guild to receive their official team license and badge, as well as a few starting items for them. At the guild, they met with the Guildmaster (a slacking) and he went through the basics for being a team, like sticking together and making sure not to disturb natural areas during explorations, before handing Willow the team’s exploration badge and license card, which mainly just shows they are approved by the guild to perform guild exploration tasks and take on low rank missions, if they choose to (though most exploration teams leave those to the rescue and outlaw capture teams respectfully). Willow thanked him for his time, attaching the badge to her bag and placing the card inside, along with the map and escape orb the guild provided to them as a starting point (and her own supplies she had brought with her). She then headed out with Ari on her tail, the taillow’s barely contained excitement sparkling in his eyes. Before they started out on their own, however, Ari had one more thing he wanted to grab from home, so they headed back there first.

Willow sat patiently on the chair as she waited for Ari to come back, checking through her bag and going over a list in her head to see if they needed to pick anything else up in town first. Meanwhile, Ari could be heard rustling through a number of items in the cupboard he was currently sitting in as the teal-feathered bird through things behind him in an attempt to find what he wanted. They spent a few minutes like this, Ari muttering to himself every time he picked up something that wasn’t what he wanted, until he gave an excited tweet and flew out of the cupboard with a bundle of fabric in his talons.
“Found it!” He called over to his calmer companion, dropping the vibrant blue pieces beside her.
“You gonna tell me what it is you’ve been looking for these past ten minutes?” Willow questioned, a slightly amused smile on her face at his enthusiasm. Ari grabbed one of the blue pieces of fabric in his beak to show her proudly, causing the gecko to tilt her head in confusion. “It’s sapphire blue silk.” Ari commented, as if it explained anything, before he started fidgeting, trying to tie the silk around his wing like a band, and failing to do so.
“Need a hand?” Willow asked as she got up to get closer, causing Ari to nod, his excitement never dropping. Carefully, Willow took the pice of fabric and wrapped it around his wing, tying it around it while being careful not to make it too tight or catch his feathers. Once she was done, Ari gave an experimental flap to check he could still fly with it before fluttering excitedly around his new friend. “What exactly is this for?” Willow asked, confused, causing the young taillow to stop and land by the rest of the pieces, each cut to act like a scarf of bandana or something similar, Willow could see now.
“Well, my sister got me this silk from one of her team’s explorations, and I always wanted to make it into accessories for me and my future teammates. Y’know, as like a symbol of our friendship and that we’re a team.” Ari explained happily, though a little more awkward and shy than Willow had seen him so far when he held one of the scarves out for the gecko. Willow couldn’t help but smile as she took the silk from him and carefully tied it into a bow around her neck, causing Ari’s eyes to light up. “I think that’s a really sweet idea.” The quiet treecko added lightly. “We can keep the others in here for any new teammates that join us.” She added, pointing to the front pocket on her bag, which Ari was quick to help fold up and place the fabric into.

The duo spent a short amount of time in town after they left Ari’s place, getting a couple extra items Willow figured they might need, like pecha and oran berries, before finally setting out on their new journey. With Willow looking over the map as they walked, Ari flew beside (or in front of) his companion, chattering on about this and that as they went. It wasn’t long before they reached the entrance to Petalburg Woods, a small ‘dungeon’ that links Petalburg and Rustboro. For an area classified as a dungeon, the woods is probably one of the most harmless areas Pokémon can travel through, a perfect place for the new team to begin their exploration. As Ari continued to chatter on, Willow only having to respond every now and then (which suited her just fine), the gecko made sure they stayed on the path, while making a few notes on a secondary map she had brought specifically to note down details of the things they find as they travel, ensuring they would have very little trouble as they made their way to the next town.

And Team Mirage has officially started their adventures. I hope you like the stories I add to these pieces, they’re a lot of fun to write, and I love getting to draw the ‘mons of my in-game teams and coming up with personalities and backstories for them. Not sure when we’ll meet up with them next, but I’m sure it won’t be too long before something interesting comes up for Willow and Ari.
Until next time, guys, gals and non-binary pals, have a great day/night.
