Description For a few years I've been designing weapons, but this is the first one I've uploaded to DA.

I present the Zeus Number 1 Mark 1. A modern take on the classic Revolver, my favorite type of sidearm. Some of the features are based on the S&W .500 Magnum and the Boltok pistol from Gears of War.

1) Semi-enclosed hammer. (Boltok design)
2) Pushing rear sight forward releases breach block.
3) Breach Block swing.
4) Classic wooden stock combined with rubber grip.
5) Laser target. (Optional)

Overall it looks good. The first thing I notice, and this may be a result of scanning the drawing or just the way it's drawn, but it seems sort of...bent. It looks like the top of the frame, where the rear sight is located, is slightly elevated in the back and it gives the impression that the frame is not lined up correctly with the barrel...it also looks like the cylinder may be slightly tilted as well. This isn't a huge issue if you're not going for realism, though realistically it would cause problems with the weapon I think. Secondly, the reason I bring it up is because it's really the first thing I noticed and sort of pulls your attention away from the rest of the gun.

As for the rest of the gun, I don't see any other issues. There's a modest level of detail; not so much that it's overwhelming but enough to give you a clear indication of the look and style that you're going for. I like the semi-enclosed hammer. I think that's a neat idea, though I wonder about the gaps between the hammer itself and the frame and the grip. If the hammer moves back and down any, I would try to extend the hammer so that it extends down into the grip somewhat, not only to visually remove the gaps, but also to suggest that when the hammer moves back, it recesses into the grip somewhat. This is speculation though, because I'm not clear exactly how it works.

One other thing that I see now, is the breach release button. It might seem like a neat idea to build it into the rear sight, but it looks like it would be a difficult piece to operate with one hand. Ideally, you want the main functions of the gun, hammer, safety, mag/breach release to be operable with either your trigger finger or thumb of the hand you're holding the weapon in, even if you're holding the weapon with two hands. So unless you have a really long thumb, that breach release would be hard to operate.

On older revolvers, you often see breach or cylinder release mechanisms that have to be operated with your other hand, which slows down reloading because you have to stop and focus on what you're doing. With a one hand operation, like in modern pistols, you can open the breach or eject the magazine with the same hand you're holding the gun in, while pulling a spare mag or in this case individual rounds or a preloaded cylinder from your belt. Ideally, by the time you've got the new cylinder ready to go, the old cylinder has been discarded and with a quick reload you're ready to go.

It may not seem like a big deal, but it's something to consider if you're going for a more modern style. I good rule of thumb when designing weapons is to think about how you would actually hold the weapon and use it, particularly where your hands would be and what functions would need to be within the reach of your fingers and what functions can be located elsewhere.

All in all, it's a good design. I look forward to seeing more desings if you post them and I'll try to offer feedback when I can.
