If he doesn't look much like a big red, it's because the Macropodidae have a wide range, showing a progression from burrowing groundhog-like species to the big ones.
They all have an unique ankle joint and some enlargement of the hindlegs.

Burrowing kangaroos are the most primitive. Tree and rock kangaroos are more specialized. Tops are the reds & greys.
