Description
Reptile (separate) from another pic I've just been workin on lately. Might as well post him separate, it'll be a while...(btw yes this is still in progress...)
The original sketch was on paper then just painted over in SAI. Yes I did add a lame BG since it's not the BG for the bigger image...
Painted in PaintTool SAI: Pencil and Marker tools (why do i even bother calling it "painted...")

Nothing special, just like how your brush is set, what kind of brush you use in wich situation, how you color dodge, light-shadow play, etc. something like that

I don't use any fancy layers settings, only the Pencil and Marker tool. The only thing I'll do with layers is sometimes put my sketches into the obvious Multiply mode, but I pretty much add lines over that as i go.
And I don't use Photoshop

well at least you have a background; it's more than I usually do. Awesome as usual.

I'm honestly just too lazy to do them. It was the same in college; back then I would if it was part of an assignment, but in general I just care about the figures. I had this one gothy teacher who made some surprisingly cool still-lives, but aside from her class, drawing inanimate objects was always boring to me. I certainly appreciate other who do it, but I don't have the patience. And when the focus of the piece is meant entirely to be the figure or figures, I think the artist can choose to take or leave a backdrop.

Yeah i hated drawing things like musical instruments or bowls... waaay too boring for me, I can study that stuff any other day I'll actually need it lol
I only got one class of drawing a person (mind you they decided to wear extremely baggy clothes that day) and even that part of my class sucked

That particular teacher, Heidi Trepanier, would use things like animal skulls and lace and candles. She was great. She'd take us out to this huge cemetery in Richmond, Va to draw too.
I had plenty of classes where we drew people, but unfortunately after freshman year, we almost always had old, and/or overweight models. I know they wanted us to be able to draw a variety of body types, but young and hot is a type too after all. It got to the point I'd just draw other classmates who were drawing the real models; it was still technically life drawing

She sounds like a good teacher, mine always annoyed me cuz i never did what i was told apparently
And yeah i would much rather study actual muscles and such from MUSCLED models, not old flabby guys...
