"...you're still human?"

Dr. Talbit was nearly baffled at the question, his beaked mask resting in his hands. Thinking back, this had been the only time he had taken it off in scarlet's presence, his blond hair a holy mess from the constant cover. He couldn't help but chuckle, rubbing the bridge of his nose. "Yeah scar. I'm still human."

"W-with the tail and all----I just thought---" scarlet began, but bit her lip, beginning to fiddle with the ends of her hair, not able to bring herself to finish the statement.

"That I had completely turned?" Dr. Talbit finally finished with a small chuckle, turning his mask over in his hands.

"What's so funny?" scarlet muttered, obviously not amused by the Doctor's teasing tone.

"Nothing, nothing. I guess I should re-examine how I present myself to people." Dr. Talbit replied, fitting the goggles and mask onto his forehead.

"...don't. I just...get scared. You know? With so many people that have gotten infected, changed into beasts..." scarlet began musing, but gave a heavy sigh, shaking her head. "It's just good to know you're still human."

Pulling his mask over his face, Dr. Talbit grabbed up his hat and set it upon his head, ensuring the fake flower Alice had given him was in its appropriate spot. He rolled his shoulders, a slight pain raising along his spine, a crawling feeling beneath his flesh causing him to shiver.

"Doc?"

"Hn?"

"...nothing." scarlet said with a slight smile; the first time she had smiled since he had met her. Dr. Talbit couldn't help but grin beneath the beak, hoping to complete the moment.

"I'd never put any of you in danger. Not you, not Rusty, nor Megan and especially not Alice." Dr. Talbit began to list, tugging at the brim of his hat with a nod. "If I ever have the slightest inkling that I may be losing control, I---"

Before he could finish his sentence, his back arched as if out of instinct, gloved fingers curling from the sudden pain as tender skin and fabric was torn asunder, a crest unfurling like a banner announcing his worsening condition. scarlet stared, slack jawed, at the sudden change.

"...impeccable timing, thank you God."
