I suppose it's just a matter of where you start and how your initial viewpoints effect how you see potential outcomes, so ultimately if you start the villain, you have the potential of becoming a hero....
However, your crusade is to better the Axiom, is it not? A very noble and heroic venture, if there was one. So assuming you start as a hero, the likelihood of you falling into villainy and then ascending into herodom yet again is quite unlikely.
