Description
The Atgeir-class destroyer, developed under the 'Halberd Project', was the Imperial Star Republic's first true capital ship, and would eventually lead to the far more powerful Sharax cruiser. The Atgeir is a slow, but well armored ship. Armed with four light railguns and two heavy railguns and a single missile bank, the destroyer sports no energy weapons but makes up for this significant lack of firepower wit hthe ability to fill the space around it with fire. With the lack of energy cannon power cores, the Atgeir's weapons do not have to worry about overheating as the excess heat is vented through the dispersal fins on each side of the ship. During combat, all non-weapon system heat generated by the ship is allowed to build up in side the hull and released only at critical levels or once the battle is over, as the ship cannot vent both heat sources at once.
Smaller than the Sharax in size, the Atgeir must make due with a less robust communications array and thus sacrifices much of it's crew space to house theses systems. It has a smaller than average bridge, with it's crewmen crammed tightly together with a single command pulpit for the commanding officer, located in the center of the room. Serving onboard an Atgeir is considered a lesson in patience, as the ship interior is cramped, crowded, and extremely muggy.

I like this ship, but putting together these Overviews are a real pain in the ass. I may have to start using Photoshop to do them.
This is another warship in my ever growing fleet of ships I use for my NationStates RPs. This was actually intended to be my strongest warship, but I could never get it to look big enough, so I downgraded it to a destroyer (which were once lesser ships around the 1940's). Since I made the ship smaller, I had to change the energy cannons into light railguns to reduce it's firepower.
Since I hadn't added any reactors (having established with the Sharax that energy weapons require seperate power sources) this wasn't too difficult since I've never explained (and probably never will) the actual size of a railgun shell. All I did was slap a covering on top of the guns and thus hid most of the obvious details. And then I decided to make manning one of these ships something you don't want to be assigned to doing and made the innards small and hot.
As soon as I can work up the patience to do another Overview, it'll be of my true battleship, the Zenith. It's gigantic though so it'll probably be a while.
