Oh, wow. All the detail goes into this perfectly. I love how for about 3/4 of the image there's metallic, rusty, somewhat desaturated colors, and then there's that little spot with vibrance and a blast of color that fits just right. You definitely deserved this DD. Keep up the awesome work! ^_^

It took me over the course of 6 months to finished working in between projects, this wasn't a "start-to-finish" drawing. Alot of thought and touchup. I'd guess around 100 hours give or take overall.

This is just simply amazing.
I don't see how such an image could not get selected for a Daily Deviation.
I couldn't stop looking at it when it first opened, and then I saw the 10 comments.
This image deserves so much more.
So much depth to it.
Definately a
Philosophically stunning [at least to me] because it seems to show the transition of a dream between two parallel realities, and the character is amazing too.
Great job. keep it up.

You don't have to thank me for this.
I have yet to give you an indication of how much I actually like this.
Which I don't think I'll be able to do.
So, if I've picked up most of what you've worked upon in this image, what have I missed? Let me know.
I simply just want to know more about this stunning image.

Death/Life (left section implies a skull) (the right, a profile of an unborn child)
there are alot more, I'd rather not spell out for the sake of leaving it open for others to ponder
but I'll give hints to climates, seasons, emotions, etc-

I tried to make somthing that will suit the concept of life,
good/bad; safety/fear; Just to give some relation to who ever sees it, and to try and speak a bit of wonder and placement.

took me a while to finish, and I almost didn't submit it

the-final-I In reply to Mark-JE [2006-01-28 09:40:48 +0000 UTC]

I see.
Then, I see elements indicating Autumn and Winter/Spring and Summer.
[Is that a withered flower at the top of the left-section?]
As for safety/fear, all I can say is that skull [indicative of]-skeleton, the insecurity of lying exposed, decaying, helpless to defend itself against anything.
The unborn child: Safe, and secure, locked away into it's mother's womb. Being prepared for hardships to come.
And then the transition, the sudden change up the walkway of the phenomenon termed 'life' to the stage of lifeless decay.
I'd guess that at the two sections, time is endless, for none remember anything before birth, nor do any probably have any individualistic thoughts after death. Forgive the individualistic*
So, the time span of these two sections is indefinite compared to the short [seemingly] journey of life. What do you think?

Mark-JE In reply to the-final-I [2006-01-28 10:08:18 +0000 UTC]

Yes, short and thick with the relative ups and downs we call our hardship and bliss.
But really there is nothing more to do when stuck between heaven and hell. (position of the character)

The fear is derived from the bird high in frame, a symbol of a god-fearing society, holding us beneath our own greed, and near unavoidable selfishness.
The wing shows our freedom in death, but with so much humility in life we still are driven from our dreams,
And It's wonder that keeps us thinking and hoping..

the-final-I In reply to Mark-JE [2006-01-28 16:29:40 +0000 UTC]

Ah.... well then, this is an awful lot of thinking we're upto right now.
Maybe the roots on the right-hand sector are another symbol?

You've done quite a lot of thinking for this piece, and for that, you deserve credit alone.
Any more thoughts to share?
