Description Inspired by a documentary about Van Eyck's Annunciation. I was reading about Kandinsky at the time and sketched an idea for an Annunciation painting that crossed the Van Eyck painting with Kandinsky's Composition VII. The result was a swirling picture of geometric forms.

The Archangel Gabriel is a winged sea-horse and interrupts Mary on the right, clutching a white lily, the symbol of the Annunciation. In the sky a stained glass crucifixion shines light, its shadow cast on a scene of tranquillity on the left; an unattainable scene, behind an impenetrable invisible wall. The heaven of the top left is contrasted with the hell on the lower right. Geometrical parts, broken open for analysis fill the centre of perspective. A sky like the sea, complete with fish. Perhaps this painting represents a battle of logic and emotion?
