Set me up in a row of little clones
all the same in a unique sort of way.
Fighting to move across the
weathered board you lay before me.
So many paths
So many choices
So many moves
Unable to move I grow to resent
your control over me as I watch
others jump headlong into the game of life.
Voiceless screams at you to release
me from this plan you have for me
and allow me
to choose my own road
to be free
to be me
Until I see the ones I envied
the ones I longed to be
the ones that chose their own moves
struck down by an enemy unseen to me
but all too familiar to you.
You gently nudge me to the side as
yet another attack screams to deaf ears
in the spot I was just moments ago.
And in that moment
I am thankful.
And I move...
