Description
I sit on the weatherworn porch
gently swinging my feet
as I watch you water your flowers.
The morning sun is still hid
beneath the blankets of the pine trees
over the hills, and past the valleys
where the morning mist gathers
before fading out of this existence
and into the blackness of nothingness.

You make such simple motions look so graceful
and artlike. A beautiful ballerina
who doesn't realize she can dance.
I watch you as you spray the life giving
spray back and forth and hum ever so lightly.

I watch as the drops fall through the air
and land on each petal individually,
hesitating ever so slightly before racing
toward the edge and plunging to the ground
to be absorbed into the flower's very soul.

It is in that moment just before
it hits the ground, but after it has
left the flower that inspiration is conceived.
In that one moment the Past and the Future
pause in their eternal footrace we call time
to gaze in wonder both back
and forward at the present to this
moment here with you.

It is in that moment that heroes are born,
legends are started, empires rise,
and dynasties fade into the nothingness
from which they were birthed.

Then the moment passes, time marches on
and the only thing we are left with is
a beautiful memory that must be captured
on paper or forgotten forever.
I slowly rise to get a pen and pad and
I see you cast a wink my way as the words
"I love you" form on your lips.

I have heard those words a thousand times
but for some reason it means so much right now.
For it was in that moment when all the universe
revolved around the two of us that I realized
you are my inspiration and my desire
and that will always be enough.
