I DID IT! I got all five commissions done before Mermay, and not a moment too soon! This was my last day to work on commissions before Mermay started, so this was done just in time.

This is a friend's Transformers OC done up as a human. I've actually known this character for almost 10 years now (...OH GOSH IT REALLY HAS BEEN ALMOST 10 YEARS) and I haven't drawn her since first year university, so I was thrilled to be able to give her another shot!

Speaking of thrilled? I'm so freaking happy with how this turned out. I budgeted a certain price for a simple background then later asked if I could experiment a little, with the full transparency that on the one hand I might not be able to do as good of a job, but if it worked out then it would be a much more expensive background for the original quote (I also let them know if it really didn't work out I could start the colouring process over). They told me to go wild and I'm so happy with it. I wanted to try out some "golden hour" lighting, a distant city-scape, chain link, tires - all things that go so well with the character but are also super far outside my comfort zone (but things I wanted to get some practice in for).

Drawing the chain link: "Wow, this is actually really relaxing! I thought it was going to be super annoying and tedious!"

Colouring the chain link: "There it is."

Done with Copic markers (plus some Faber Castell Polychromos for texture) on 9x12 Strathmore marker paper.
