And you let me peer in to the depths of your soul..
All I can do is
Capture you with my dark stick of charcoal.."
These portraits, done with graphite and charcoal pencils on paper, are aimed predominantly at capturing a range of expressions portrayed by a person's face. The intent is to try and study, and reproduce on paper, a few of the myriad of emotions a person expresses through their face. The face, with it's ability to express emotions without a word being spoken, is crucial for identity. A smile, a frown or the slight raise of an eyebrow can convey an entire story, and these portraits are an attempt to present the viewer with subtle hints towards creating a story through each expression.
