Description I used every trick I know to make this one... There are a few tweaks I would like to make before print, but I am happy with the project.

All of it was created in ultrafractal except for the border and text. By the end, it topped 110 layers, and is, to date, my most intricate fractal art piece.

I was inspired by a great artist here on deviant art named Ivana Hartog, ~blackonwhite who has no trouble dropping 100 hours of work on a piece... a quality I admire, and thought to put into practice.

Anyway, Enjoy and all that good shtuff! Cheers!

This is an amazing, and very well done, work of fractal art. It will serve as my goal in UF, because now I know what CAN be done!

I had to blink and reread that a few times. Quite the compliment if I must say... and I thank you.

My favorite thing about fractals is the possibilities... glad I could show you one of the nifty ones.

I meant every word of that compliment! Sometimes, gasping and saying "holy s**t!!!" just doesn't cut it. You created a fine work of art, and judging by the other comments, I'm not alone in feeling that way.

Thanks zsteve.

The 3d stone work was actually very difficult.. I had never built anything like that from scratch.. Needless to say, I learned a lot about shading very quickly. While I have never done vector art myself, I ended up using quite a few vector shading principals to get it to where it is.

I am glad you enjoyed it.

Had no idea that fractals can generate such images.

One of the things I love about fractals is that they can be used to generate an image of.. well.. anything.

You're welcome. Don't blush, this is worth all the praise coming your way. I don't know if I could ever work with that many layers without becoming so lost, confused and frustrated. I really would like to know how you managed it?

FractalEyes In reply to milleniumsentry [2007-04-17 02:44:40 +0000 UTC]

I tend to be somewhat haphazard in my work so I am curious - do you finish the lower layers first or do a section at a time? I'm rendering a pair right now that I could easily keep working on but like well enough to call them done, though I will probably recycle some elements from them.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

milleniumsentry In reply to FractalEyes [2007-04-17 03:11:04 +0000 UTC]

I usually work each section at a time, in a separate window... copying and pasting the layers as I go. Once my machine hits 35-40 layers it starts to slow down, so it can be half a minute to a minute between minor changes... (thats the visual update.. not the rendering. lol) kind of forces me to work window to window... I work in black and white usually, and color from there. In this case, (and the case of most of my old photo manips/collages) I usually draw a rough sketch first or of new elements I think of... and work out what I would need to create them... I always save texturing for last... then do final color tweaks to blend in text layers before render.

Hope that wasn't too long winded. lol.

I would say that I could take almost any of my fractal pieces and start adding new stuff... It's the bane of being the artist I think... only other peoples work ever looks finished... lol
