Description Chapter Thirteen
Though Mel seemed surprised and somewhat regretful, she recovered quickly.
"Well...we had better find a way in," She added, a little quieter, "If you still want to find your friend."
Felix nodded solemnly.  They didn't have to plan long.  Soon the same man who had brought in the cages came out, leaving the door open, most likely so he could bring in more.
Felix didn't need a word from Mel to know what he had to do.  He dashed inside, unseen, into the hall of cages.  He heard barking, and figured the dogs must be nearby.  There was a mixture of yowls as several of the cats called out to him.
"I'm looking for a cat named Yuke!" Felix said, struggling to keep his voice louder than the noise.  A mangy dark grey tabby she-cat next to an empty cage on the bottom row replied.
Her voice was urgent.  "She's being put to sleep!  Over there!" She motioned with her tail.
Felix could only assume what 'putting to sleep' was.  He ran up to a set of double doors at the end of the hall.  The door was open enough for him to see into the room, but not enough for Felix to squeeze in.  He saw Yuke on a table.  A human who smelled of drugs and wore a piece of cloth over his mouth was burying a needle in her fur.
"Felix..." was all Yuke got out before she closed her eyes and stopped breathing.
"Dead," the human said.
At first, Felix was unable to comprehend that he had failed.  He walked away, and the same cat who had told him about Yuke spoke up again.
"Did you...?" she asked.
"No...I was too late," Felix realized.  The cat looked sad, for a moment.
"She wanted me to tell you...she had a son while she was here.  He's being taken by a human, you might be able to catch them if you hurry!"
Felix ran back outside, barely remembering to thank the cat.  When he got there, he saw a kitten being taken into a large van by a man.  The kitten's fur was the same as Felix's, only darker and longer.  It had Yuke's big, beautiful blue eyes.
Mel approached him.  "I need your help," he said.  She shook her head, looking somewhat annoyed.
"No, I-"  But she was interrupted.  A hawk, much like the one they had hid from in the field, swooped down and clutched Mel in its talons, flying away.  Felix's eyes darted back and forth between Mel and his son.
Now he had a choice to make.

Shadow looks to the sky, and then back to you.  "It is time to get moving," she says, though you're not sure how she can tell time when the sky is covered by trees.
"If you wish, I shall continue the story once we get to our next place of resting."  Shadow jumps through some trees, back to the darkness.  You follow, barely able to see her in the blackness.
