Chapter One"Mommy, I have a question." one announced, a few months later.
"What is it, Jillia?" the mother replied.
The little one cocked her head in confusion. "I though my name was Erintrude, and my sister was Jillia!"
The mother though for a moment. "No, no, I'm certain it's Jillia. Now out with it, I haven't got all day."
"Well, I was just wonderin'...how come we don't go outside?" Jillia asked.
"Yeah, tell us!" the others said.
The mother sighed. She knew she would need to explain eventually. After taking a deep breath, she retold the painful story.
"A long time ago, walkese led happy and carefree lives. Their were no predators. Everything was peaceful and free."
"But then, dragons found this place Most explorers were starving and hopeless, so we took them in. Dragons instantly wanted all the land for themselves. Being greedy and cruel in nature, they decided to take our home by any means necessary. They kept making promises that they would set apart some for us, but then they would take that away too.
"They destroyed most of the beautiful meadow, building horrid cities on top of it. They slaughtered our people. Some found an escape underground. Even the dragons did not want this new territory in the dirt. They eat any who venture into the sunlight as prey." the mother finished.
Jillia shook her head. "But...dragons can't be all bad. No one can. I'm sure they're good deep insi-"
"Haven't you learned nothing, child?" her mother snapped. "Dragons should never be trusted! They are nothing but selfish and cruel!"
Not wanting to make her mother angrier, Jillia walked away, her mother not even noticing. After much wandering around, she found a part of the tunnel that was sealed off. She instantly was taken over by curiosity. Jillia dug her tiny claws into it and removed the dirt blocking her.
Instantly, sunlight streamed into the dark place which Jillia called home. Without a moment's hesitation, she ran outside, and found...paradise. Everything was so bright and lively. It was much warmer than in the cold, dank tunnels. A yellow creature flitted past her. A...butterfly? She had only heard of them in stories.
Jillia felt a rush of joy as she began to chase it across the meadow, oblivious to the world around her. Oblivious, of course, to the sign signalling that she was entering dragon territory.
She was leaping and twirling in the fresh air, thinking that nothing in the world could ever be so lovely when she heard a loud thump. A bright red being approached her with a grin on its face. It was large and intimidating. Jillia figured it must be a dragon, like her mother had just told her about.
Though her instincts screamed at her to flee, she approached him, the butterfly flying from far from her reach, over the head of the dragon.
"Hi there!" Jillia said brightly and innocently.
"Oh, hello little one." said the dragon in a deep voice. "Hey guys, guess what I found?"
Jillia turned around to see who he was talking to and found herself surrounded by dragons of many shapes, sizes and colors.
"Looks delicious!" said a dark blue one.
"But...w-what are you gonna do to me?" Jillia asked. The dragons cackled.
"Take you out dinner!" said the red one.
Jillia smiled, reassured. "Oh, that sounds nice."
Again, they laughed. What was so funny? Jillia wondered.
Suddenly they lunged at her in a mass of claws and teeth. She felt a burning sensation on her tail. One of the dragons was breathing fire, burning her alive. Another held her down by her tail, but Jillia managed to slip out.
Jillia ran and ran, tears streaming out of her face. She heard the flapping of wings behind her. Sometimes, one would swoop down and try to claw at her back. However, by some sort of miracle she made it back to the tunnel entrance, which was still wide open.
Jillia replaced the soil she had knocked away and returned to her siblings. No one had noticed that she had left. However, now she learned a valuable lesson:
Dragons are nothing but pure evil.
