Description This is a thankyou to all my watchers. After 3 years being asked to make a tutorial, it's finally here lol. Yeah a bit late and everyone has probably advanced past this tutorial level, but i hope it helps some artists nevertheless.

I don't enjoy lineart so I'm using this recent one [link] and re-coloring it different from the original.

This is my full process of coloring lineart. I don't always use this process, but these were the same steps i used when coloring the original which can be seen here: [link]

It didn't turn out as well as the original, but i rushed it as much as possible cause i just wanted to focus on the process and it's the 2nd time to color the same thing. This took me about 6 hrs straight to fully write up and color so i apologize for spelling, grammar or just not understandable cause i haven't double-checked.

Feel free to ask questions!

I love how your tutorial and everything is set up! It really helped alot! But one thing is really aggravating me to no end! I mean i have the coloring, brushes all that is set and i know how ot do that. However the one thing that is keeping me back is how in the world did you seperate the different layers for the wings, skin.etc? I cant seem to get that...I have a nouse so its alittle harder for me and I have no idea how people do the layers..... It would be great if you could explain that to me! Thanks so much!

Very helpful tutorial, really made me realize how texture can make things stand out more.

one question though. I'm using Photoshop 7.0, and don't have the 'en pressured brush?'
What is it called and how can I download it?

Wow! It is sooo cool! ^^

I would like to ask something. Do you use the smudge tool, or just airbrush?

The pic come out really great! I really love it.

Great tutorial, Im having a bit of trouble blending the darker shades and lighters ones together though, it looks choppy and uneven, are you using a drawing tablet?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

minties In reply to Swedrest [2007-05-22 16:29:14 +0000 UTC]

Yes i use a tablet. When i airbrush/blend i use a fairly large brush size at a low flow %. If your using a mouse you can still get it smooth, try a lower flow around 3-5%

Swedrest In reply to minties [2007-05-23 01:59:52 +0000 UTC]

Thanks that really helps, i tried the flow settings and it worked a lot better, although its still not that great since im forced to toil away with only a mouse i want a tablet T_T). Are they really that helpful for drawing/inking?

question,,

i was having a hard time finding that pressure sensitive brush in cs3... is it a loaded brush or it comes with the as it is? Or am i gonna load the brushes in cs2? oR how do you set it up?

The brush should come with any version of PS. You can always make one if not. Choose a round brush and go into brush settings (CS3: "brushes" tab next to left side of canvas preview), then click into "other dynamics" and set both opacity and flow jitter to pen pressure. You can also tick "airbrush" and "smoothing" under brush presets too.

Sorry for the late reply!

The brush should come with any version of PS. You can always make one if not. Choose a round brush and go into brush settings.

CS1/2: Brush settings located at right side of the top bar.

CS3: "brushes" tab is next to left side of canvas preview.

After brush settings, click into "other dynamics" and set both opacity and flow jitter to pen pressure. You can also tick "airbrush" and "smoothing" under brush presets too.
