I decided to spruce up Rae’s mask and make it closer to the original inspiration, the Hanya mask, altered slightly with the first design.

Now closer to the traditional mask, it has more structure, expression, and teeth. Which I find important because I want it to be as scary, eerie, or off-putting as possible. Since Raelynn is a Druid and protector of the fir forest/lake she resides in, she wears the disguise to make folks fearful to discourage them from traveling into the Mirrormist Grove. For good really, the mist that covers the woods is thick and whoever is cocky enough to enter the forest would encounter sights that would break their psyche.

The Mirrormist Grove’s effects harm humans as much as it affects Raelynn. However, with medicinal mycelium put inside her mask to breathe in; she can reduce the risk of dealing with any “pesky visions” as she calls them. However, the con to the mycelium is it tends to induce drowsiness.

(If you ever played Celeste, it’s like seeing a dark version of you, or in this case a vision or reflection of a memory that causes deep pain. So not the best place for someone who is holding doubts, shameful secrets, or past trauma within one’s self.)
