but I can't swim anymoreI am proud to present to you the dual-faced power-couple, Ravelin and Alias! This was a kiriban caught by Poisons-Kiss and Esveeka .
I've been working on this non-stop for the past couple days, and I'm finally finished -- at the end, I am really happy with how this turned out, and I really hope you guys like it too!! I pushed myself to improve especially with colour changes, and I'm reaching a very comfortable place in my art.Β (ALSO forgive me, all the references for Ravelin had her black face on different sides so I just did what worked best???)
edit 2: made shadows softer and belly reflections woooo
edit: it was bothering me so much how the mane covered ravelin's ears
AND WITH THAT I AM FINISHED MY TO-DO LIST I'M GOING TO CRY

Firstly, overall lovely idea and nice composition. I just want to point out a couple small (ish) things that really caught my eye. I hope I can explain this the way it sounds in my head!
Given the light source and shadow direction, it makes me feel like the light on the horses isn't falling quite right. On Alias, the hard edge shadow is really off putting and even quite distracting, especially due to how soft the rest of the light is over rest of the image. I also feel as if there needs to be some light on the visible part of the back (though I do understand you removed the rider so it may not have been so easily possible due to colour/tone issues, etc). Β As for Ravelin, the only thing that really struck me was the fact the rump looks a little flat against the background. It feels like there needs to be a little soft light slipping through and over their bodies; even a small sliver would solve this I believe. Apart from that, a small addition of reflected light on their undersides from the water would make it look more natural.
Hope that all made sense, it kinda came out how I thought about it. Just a photographer's eye's opinion.

I want to thank you so much for taking the time to share your thoughts on this piece!! I was really grateful that you gave me some pointers on lighting, because although I was happy with how this came out, I had my doubts. Using everything you mentioned, I went back just now to tweak it a bit! I softened up Alias' shadow (including the sharpness of the horns' shadows too!), added a little bit of light on Ravelin's back, and added a little water reflection on their bellies. I personally think the lighting has become more cohesive, but I could use a second opinion!

Lighting, at least in my opinion, is always one of the hardest parts of a manipulation (or any art really), because you're always contending with opposite light directions and it can be such a headache. I'm just really glad that I was able to make sense! Ravelin's rump definitely doesn't look as flat and the softer shadows are much better, and the little reflections on the bellies. ^^ Β I'm glad I was able to help.
