Oh, you must be new to that patreon thing.
Think of it as a kickstarter, except it's indefinetly going instead of having a set goal, and the rewards are monthly (or weekly, or daily... it really depends on the creator).
It's a way to support artists and get some premium content from them at the same time.
What I meant about the 5$ tier, is that people that are pledging 5$/month get tutorials. There are different prices, too. People in the 10$ tier get wireframes every week, and everybody from just 1$/month get to see everything I make before I upload it to deviantArt, and can alpha test the game I'm making.
You'd be surprised, but probably a lot of your favorite artists in deviantArt have a patreon page too.
