Description This flow chart isn't meant to be visually pretty. It's just a practical way to help you talk to people who want kids and might be a little resistant to the idea of adopting. It contains the most common excuses people give against adopting and why those reasons are generally not valid.

UPDATE: Just FYI, because the picture is so large, it's easier to read it on a PC or by using the desktop version on your mobile device. Depending on what type of mobile device you're using and its screen resolution, it might still be a tad blurry, but it's readable. To switch to the desktop version on your mobile device, go to the bottom of your screen and press "Switch to Desktop Site," and then refresh the page.

Most people are on the other side, sadly. But I'm glad whenever I hear that someone new is considering adopting! It gives me hope that what I have to say isn't falling on deaf ears.

Oh, man... It's not what your saying that's making me not want to have biological children, I'm afraid of giving birth, I don't know how moms do that! XD I'd rather stick to adopting a kid that needs a home way more than making one for me to have to deal with. Besides, Christians typically hate me anyways so what's the point in following the rules of people who both hate me and are unrealistic?

Well, birth is temporary and is completely natural. And it's not really dangerous anymore what with modern medicine. But I completely understand not wanting to go through it.

That's very sad that Christians hate you for simply not wanting to give birth. It's not as if you've hurt anyone (I'm assuming you haven't had an abortion before). I get the same thing from Christians when I advocate adoption. Fortunately, the younger generation of Christians is more open to the idea! I honestly think the "Christian" belief that people must breed breed breed is largely a cultural thing, because there's literally nothing in the Bible to support it. That's why younger Christians are more open to considering it. They’re looking at the Bible for themselves and realizing that the Doctrine of Procreation is nowhere to be found. So don't lose heart! There are plenty of sympathetic Christians out there, they just don't have the means to be as vocal as their predecessors just yet.

Oh, no you misunderstand. I'm only 17 (only about a month until that's true) but I'm what most christians call "a demon" and I've even been bullied by a group of them, adults. Just for what I believe in, being who I am and for liking the games I like. It's really confusing to me how adults can bully a minor. And I'm the minor being bullied! And when we go get food from the church, because we are poor, and they give us slightly rotten food. We've gotten open boxes of Mac and cheese, slightly molded bread, slightly molded chicken etc.

What? Why do they call you a demon? They know a demon is a fallen angel, right?

They shouldn't be keeping perishable food in a food pantry. If they're keeping perishable food, they probably aren't aware it's going bad. I'm just curious, but do you and your family try to socialize and make friends with the people in the church, or just get food from them?

They sound kind of like a fundie church, but I could be wrong. I'm a Christian, but I'm definitely not a fundie Christian!

I still don't really know, but I always assumed it was them having a problem with me being a fictionkin. And we hardly ever go to church, I don't because I have skin problems and problems with the heat and that's terrible, as I've been born and raised in Florida. And I don't know what a fundie church is.

MonocerosArts In reply to Amcd42 [2017-02-12 03:21:55 +0000 UTC]

What's a fictionkin? Is it like otherkin?

I would have thought the church building would have AC. Oh well.

A full die church stands for "fundamentalist." They claim it's just that they follow the Bible literally, but it goes much farther than that. It's an entire culture. They’re characterized by being about 10 to 30 years behind the times, believing that drinking alcohol is evil, etc., none of which is Biblical. They’re the Christians that everybody hates, lol! Does any of that sound familiar?

It's just like otherkin but it's with fictional characters. Any character you can name, including OC's are all able to have people be fictionkins of them. And down here, in Florida; especially in the summer, you can NEVER crank the AC up enough...  And, no. They actually don't sound familiar. This is the first time I'm hearing about this.

So you identify as a fictional character? Does that mean you don't think you're real? Sorry, I'm just a little confused.

Oh, okay! I don't know that church, so I was just guessing.

Amcd42 In reply to MonocerosArts [2017-02-15 21:54:31 +0000 UTC]

Maybe I'm going too fast for you... You have the first sentence semi-correct. I identify as quite a few characters. But it's mainly me having been, or going to be said characters in a past or future life. It doesn't really matter, as not many seem to care, but whenever they hear about me being one of them, it just sets people's eternal fight flame so to speak. It makes them so angry for some reason, and because I don't fight, they only become madder for me not fighting back. I've learned to just leave well enough alone when it comes to openly speaking about my fictionkins, and it's very rare that I do.

MonocerosArts In reply to Amcd42 [2017-02-16 17:56:22 +0000 UTC]

Oh, okay! It doesn't make me mad. I don't get it, but it doesn't anger me. I'm not sure why it would anger anyone. I guess people sometimes get angry about what they don't understand. People do that to me when I talk about adoption sometimes. It's sad.

Oh, man do I know how you feel. It's just no this and no that and "that can't be true" and "their only a character, leave it at that" People go so far as to fight with me about what I know. Sometimes people forget to use common sense...

This is beautiful!

Definitely planning to adopt in the future, probably someone who is somewhere around 4th grade age or older. Babies would be hard to get to in time and I don't do well with little kids.

Thanks!

Yeah, there's a huge need for older child adoptions. Babies already have homes, but there are thousands of older children in the US alone who need families.

I want to smack whoever says that ‘mini-me’ thing, because for the most part it is never true. Most kids are a blend of both parents who may have traits that come from the grandparents (or were hidden)...in the case of that person, slap them with this fish .

Um that one box is really hard to see with the small text, I know why you did it, but it's difficult to read without squinting.

My landlord / housemate (whatever) was pregnant (but miscarried back in May), and when they found out she was having a boy, her bf went on about "That's my boy!" "That's my mini-me." "He's going to be just like me." and DEMANDED that the child be a Jr.

Oh my...I am terribly sorry for her loss. But it sounds kind of strange to assume something when one does not know what the baby will look like and then chances are they may change later in life.

Honestly, it's for the best, she's narcissistic as fuck, was abusive to her kids, very irresponsible, and would have been a bad mom to this child, like she was with the others. This guy has a major ego problem, and the only reason he even wanted to be in the child's life, was because it was a boy. That's another reason why it's best she miscarried, because of how he acts, the child would turn out to be his own person, and then the "dad" would have gotten all pissy at him and shamed him for "not being like me." and possible, would have just walked out of the kids life for that "reason."

Honestly, there's a high chance this kid would have killed himself once he got older, if he had been born.

Yes, it's so frustrating when they talk like that, because they honestly believe what they're saying, and it's impossible to argue with politely because it's nothing but raw, unadulterated selfishness and lack of logic.

You can read it on a PC or put your phone on desktop version.
