Description
This is a cropped photograph of my first painting project, "Original Painting", for my painting class that I am in with Kat. I have to say, I'm really happy with the way it was cropped. Not much was left out, but I pretty much had to crop it because photographing this painting with my tiny digital camera was a real pain, and took 15 or so tries before I got an image I could agree with, like this one.I really like how this painting looks more like a sketch or gesture drawing than anything else. That fact may be attributed to the fact that I blitzed this painting in just 3-4 hours in one sitting. It is water soluble oils. One key thing to note is that this canvas is an old canvas of a painting I did and hated in very early high school, so to start I painted everything blue, meaning that I had to add highlights on top of shadows. This painting strategy is something I had never tried before but I'm happy to say I think I succeeded at it. The original green underneath shines through in some parts, so the colors of blue vary quite a lot, which is cool and enriching.
I originally had no title for this painting. It's a painting of a plaster bust of a woman, presumably of African American descent, who is staring off in the distance emotionally. I really liked how poofy banzai tree hair and facial expression which is why I was drawn to paint her from observation (I also had no ideas at all so grabbed whatever seemed acceptable).

Lumpin' excellent. The highlights are placed just right and she's got a totally fierce expression!
