A windigo is a supernatural cannibalistic monster belonging to the spiritual traditions of Algonquian Nation in North America. Windigos are described as powerful monsters that have a desire to kill and eat their victims. In most versions of the legend, a human becomes a windigo after his or her spirit is corrupted by greed or weakened by extreme conditions, such as hunger and cold. Sometimes, windigos are described as exceptionally thin, with the skull and skeleton pushing through its ash-coloured, mummy-like skin. They are said to move so quickly that their feet burst into flame, scorching the earth as they pass.
