It's funny to me,how we've known each other
for so long,
but we never really knew each other
until now.
When we first met,
fresh out of elementary school,
we were such kids.
I still remember though
how much I liked you,
how close we were,
all thanks to one computer class.
But then we drifted
and though I can't recall why,
I'll always be upset
for so much lost time.
When we got to high school,
the reconnection wasn't instant.
We talked slowly,
chatted briefly,
and were often at a loss for words.
But one friend's slip up,
gave us inspiration in each other.
We found refuge in talking
about anything and everything
for hours on end.
We built it up,
trusted each other;
we were close again.
We now know each other's secrets,
can read each other like a book.
We're like family.
And that's why I'm glad,
although I didn't have you for some time,
I'm grateful that
I knew you all along.
