When I saw this, a wave of familiarity passed over me. It reminded me of a macro picture that I saw of a jumping spider back when I was a kid. My parents used to give my sister and I different magazines when I was little like Zoobooks or National Geographic and I've got to say, this is on par with the photographs I remember so fondly. I looked through your other spider photographs as well, and you have a talent for being able to give wonderful, even cute expressions to animals which most people despise.
I may be wrong in this, but I think you really must love the creatures, or at least have a great deal of respect for them. I can't imagine how else someone would be able to photograph them in such a way.

okay okay, first- this is absolutely adorable. And beautiful. And I admire the fact that you could get so close to a spider, by zoom or other means I do not know how. But none the less beautiful.
And yet.... I just came from Memebase and I want to make a demotivational poster titled "SOON" under it.... you can't say that you don't see that happening right there.

The photo is fantastic. I love how the light catches the spider's eyes, and the detail is insane. The surroundings are blurred just enough so that they don't take the focus away from the spider.

I'm a huge arachophobe, but I always have had a soft spot for these little guys. I mean, I saw one walking around on my guitar case once during a picnic. It looked up at me as if it were trying to channel its inner NintendoCapriSun, saying "Is this okay, mommy?"
It was a very successful picnic just because of that spider~

They're especially smart for spiders; some jumping spiders even hunt other spiders and use all kinds of crazy, treacherous tactics, like pretending to be caught in their webs!

Huh? Spiders don't suck blood, and no spider in the world deliberately seeks to bite people.
The only spider that does feed on blood is a single unique species, which still can't suck it from people. It gets blood only by eating mosquitoes.

I happen to know of several deadly spiders that live in my area. Deadly to humans, that is. I'm sure they only bite in self-defense, but I agree with the other poster's comment: Naaaasty...
But having arachnophobia makes me a little biased.

Almost all "deadly" spiders are exaggerated, though; the Sydney Funnelweb hasn't killed anyone in over a decade, same with the Black Widow who only killed 1% of bite victims to begin with (allergies, heart disease or other complications interacting with the venom)...the brown recluse, too, is a lot less toxic than people think.

Again, I may be biased. My immune system is very weak at the moment, so I'm sure the danger to me would be higher than many. It's nice to know that deaths are rare, though.
