Description "Wolf Morning"

Finally finished.
I actually had this finished last week, but I couldnt get my scanner working properly.
(had to download windows 8 patch)
My last image "Nocturnal Chimera" had to be faxed to my laptop.
And this time it didn't want to even do that. Ugh.
But its not doing the weird line thing anymore so it like fixed itself somehow.
(Perhaps after being bumped around during the move lol.)

Only there is still a line here (down the middle) because it was too big for the scanner
so we had to scan both ends separately, and copypaste them together with gimp.
And some minor smoothing outness to make it presentable since the line
was so much more drastic at first. D:
All thanks to my fiance and his computer skillz.
I'd be so lost without him. o.o
Feel free to hit him up if you need help with any sort of image editing. *totally pimping him out* XD
This is my first time really taking burnishing seriously almost all throughout an image
Thats why it looks smooth except for the sky which I was too chicken to burnish for fear
of making streaks. Also a first for some experiments with a bit of lighting and color.
And omg there is actually a little bit of a foreground here!?! Quite happy with it.

This was done with Prismacolor colored pencils. With a reference photo from one of my books.
Idk what size paper it is haha. Too big to scan too small to sell as a print? Lol!

You think I am improving?
That means a lot. I feel stuck and slow often as far as advancement.
Thank you!~

A fine wolf! super colouring! the fur has volume and looks very realistic, good job! as for the blending? no need to do that, I always do 3 scans of the drawing if the paper is larger than my scanner, left ,middle and right. I then join the left and right using humble mspaint! (people may laugh but I swear by it for joining up drawings!) on windows 7. It works a treat for me and you can join scans very precisely. If there is a bad join line I will then paste in the middle scan. When done correctly you cannot see the joins, it may take a few tries but I have it down to a fine art now. I dare say you can do the same with gimp, but maybe you should try using something simple like mspaint to start out and it will save you hassling your boyfriend

Alternatively win the lottery and buy a huge scanner! problem solved.

Lmao. Now I feel dumb. o.o
Haha.
I suppose that could have made it look better. XD
However I couldnt even begin to know how to proceed after opening the files,
idk how to actually join them together and save them as a single image.Β
I am sure there are tutorials for this, but hey I got him to do it for me so lol.Β
I am a terrible, terrible human being I know. Hahaha.
I am hoping after watching him I can eventually learn this stuff and become atleast reasonably self sufficient.Β
Maybe. Ha!
But it would have been uploaded as a terrible blurry image if you hadnt mentioned pasting images together in my journal a few weeks ago. So I really appreciate all of your advice. Thank you.

Well I just came to this solution by playing about, I challenge you to spot the joins in my drawings!!! haha! I know its adobe this and photoshop that etc etc Β  but you can use free art progs and achieve excellent results imo. Picasa is another free prog from google (its meant for photos but works well with scanned drawings too) which can solve scanner washout problems.

This is why DeviantArt is awesome.
I can learn from other artists who have experienced similar problems as me lol.

HydraTamer [2014-06-23 13:25:27 +0000 UTC]

This looks really good! You're pretty brave to scan and smooth the sides together! I'm not sure if I'd have the skill to do that. You can barely see a line!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

mysteriouswhitewolf In reply to HydraTamer [2014-06-23 14:12:10 +0000 UTC]

Yeah I wouldnt be able to do it by myself. XD
Rudy (the guy you see who picks me up from art class)
he first re-sized the image, copypasted the rear next to the face where it lined up but the two images overlapped.
That left a weird contrast "line" where half the paper had to lift up to hang off the scanner making the edge where it
was supposed to connect really dark and blurry.
So he used the eraser tool made sure it erased TRANSPARENT not BG,
and made the dark part fade to the image underneath IT WAS LIKE, MAGICAL. Β  Β  Β  Β  Β  Β  Β  Β  Β  Β

Thank you Fenris. ^^ Yes I am not very computer savy, it looked so horrid when we first copy pasted the images together,
but he was able to use the tools to make it blend better.
I couldnt even copy paste the image together myself if I wanted to lol.

FenrisxWolf In reply to mysteriouswhitewolf [2014-06-23 08:31:30 +0000 UTC]

No problem ^.^
Hehe same X3 It sounds interesting the way you managed to do it I always have to edit mine with PhotoScape or Sai, and it really helps bring out the image and makes it look tons better c:
I'd love to buy a scanner that is far better quality than the one I am currently using. I found a great one that's not tooΒ expensive which I'm saving up for c:

mysteriouswhitewolf In reply to FenrisxWolf [2014-06-23 08:41:50 +0000 UTC]

I try not to edit my images past what they look like in real life.
But when we copypasted the images together the resulting "line"
was what made it look bad. And he was able to blend it away.

FenrisxWolf In reply to mysteriouswhitewolf [2014-06-23 08:43:32 +0000 UTC]

Ah yeah same X3
My scans come out so dull it's unbelievable, so I have to try and fix them to be as colourful and vibrant as they are in real life
Ooh that's cool. The blending thing sounds like a life saver
