Description
As requested, I made a beaded star tutorialAlways remember to tie your work and weave in the ends. Cutting too close to a knot can lead to the knot eventually coming undone. If you like, put a tiny dab of glue on the knot to further secure it a bit better.
Tips:
1) Use thread the same color as your beads, or the same color as the vast majority of them.
2) Use size 10 or smaller seed beads, I used size E for the purpose of clarity in this tutorial.
3) Depending on the size of seed bead you choose, adjust the number of re-enforcement rounds you add - the hole of the bead is only so big, a smaller bead means less enforcement rounds.
4) Despite looking uniform, a single packet of seed beads can have many different shapes and variations of the same bead (a tiny bit taller, wider, bigger hole, smaller height) Choose beads of a similar shape to ensure a good outcome.
5) Just have fun~!!!
And as mentioned on the bottom, do not redistribute this tutorial for money in any way shape or form, if used on your site you must give proper credit and a link back to the original tutorial. Items made with the use of this tutorial are free to sell.
Thank you to all of you who have added this tutorial to your Favourites and/or just taken the time to have a look

Lovely and well put tutorial, thank you for making!
I've made a few beaded things myself, a turtle among others. It's a fun hobby :3 I was wondering, though, do you ever use thin metal thread for your beadwork? That's all I've ever used, and I was just wondering if you've tried it and decided against it since you use normal thread here

MythrilAngel In reply to netherwings [2010-04-05 03:54:52 +0000 UTC]
Thank you, and You're welcome
I've not tried the metal thread...can you tie the metal thread? (random question) My concern, if the thread cannot be tied, if said object gets bent out of shape, would the beads start falling off the end? (provided you haven't twisted the end for closure) and if it's twist sealed, how could I conceal the twisted bit within the bead work and make it appear seamless (I'm over thinking things : P )
My thing with the thread...I've tried beading thread and it just doesn't seem very strong. I use machine embroidery sewing thread for added durability, a quality product and visual appeal. It looks the same, and ensures the thread won't snap as easily
The problem I had with the beading thread is when it came to the bugle beads, when it hit the edges, no matter how smooth, the edges sliced the thread clean or frayed it pretty badly ;-;
I'm sorry if I sound a little redundant, a bit worn out and having trouble thinking of the proper wording

Usually, I just (um, hard to explain) put the thread around a joint close to where it came out of the last bead several times and tighten it a lot. When I'm certain it will hold, I cut it almost completely close to the beads but leave a very small edge that I stuff into the closest bead. Hope this makes sense xD It works for me at least! I prefer metal thread because it eliminates the need for a needle, and I keep losing mine xD
I agree that machine sewing thread is good for beading! What bothers me with that though, is the need to use a needle. Or do you manage without?
Ah, maybe you could try the metal thread for those beads? I don't think it would snap ^__^
Tried making these by the way, take a look if you want!
I was wondering, would you mind if I sell these in my webshop? I rather enjoyed making them, and I've given several to my friends already
Oh, don't worry about proper wording. Not very good at putting the right words down, myself.

MythrilAngel In reply to netherwings [2010-04-09 02:28:04 +0000 UTC]
that makes sense
I'd save a lot of money on needles if I used the metal thread, I'm sure -- I'm pretty rough on them to the point that the beading needles snap from too much use XDDD
I may just give using metal thread a try, thank you
Go ahead and sell them, who am I to stop you They look beautiful and have good color coordination on the duel color ones. They are a lot of fun to make aren't they?
I always fuss, and it's earned me the endearing title Ellie-mum XDDD; So don't mind me -laughs-

Good!
Hehe, yes it might save you some money of you're THAT hard on them! xD Glad you liked my tip, I hope it works out for you!
Thanks, I was hoping it would be okay ^^ You can see them here [link] . I was thinking that 10 euros might be a good price? That's about what earrings cost in the store.
They sure are fun!
Hehe, it's okay, I understand completely

MythrilAngel In reply to netherwings [2010-04-11 01:39:49 +0000 UTC]
I usually sell mine for 7-15 US $ (which includes shipping) depending on the beads used. For seed beads, considering the stars take very few beads and look great, that actually covers the cost of an entire new package of beads as well as more earring hooks...but when it comes to the more expensive beads, like 3-5 dollars for 20 of them, I charge more. I usually sell them for as little as I can, and make very few in profit...but I do this for fun, and the happy customers are enough profit for me : P

That sounds fair Such good morale, I like you more and more!
Yes, taking bead prices into account is wise indeed.
I've experimented a bit and made some bigger stars by adding another layer of beads I'm swamped in schoolwork atm but as soon as I get around to taking pictures of them I'll upload so you can see if you'd like

Aww thanks One thing that peeves me pretty bad is when people get greedy, so I try not to walk that path myself.
When you're free of your school work, I'd like to see
I actually did make a double layer star once before, with a smaller star on top of a larger one...but it's in my: To be improved upon, haphazard pile, which keeps growing taller...and wider...and a tangled mess of threads o.o;;;; Maybe I should get on it and finish what I started before I form a thread and bead monster

netherwings In reply to MythrilAngel [2010-04-27 07:06:48 +0000 UTC]
That's true.
I feel kind of bad for selling the things that I make, but the reason I make them is not to sell but because it is what I love doing, and I have to sell some of it to be able to keep making. The dreamcatchers for example are quite expensive to make and take a lot of time which is why I have to sell them at a high price, but I am still scared of being viewed as greedy. I hope that making it clear in my webshop that I do not make dreamcatchers to become rich will prevent people from looking at me in that way.
Bah, sorry for ranting about this to you, it's just been troubling me and it seems like you'd understand
Here they are!
Haha, yes it's scary to think of what all those leftover threads and beads could turn into one day xD

MythrilAngel In reply to netherwings [2010-04-27 07:34:55 +0000 UTC]
I understand I've only sold a few of my items because I've been afraid of that too...I look for the best deals I can find on good beads and supplies but I can only lower the prices of the things I make so far. Everyone rants on me -laughs- no worries
Ooo yes, that's how I made my Cherryblossom Earrings and Necklace set, with one exception. I added extra beads on top of the first round to make it look like the little stick parts of the flower (the words elude me right now, but I'm sure you know what I mean XDDD ) I had originally thought you meant something different by your description...I guess I'll have to finish the ones I was talking about and post them to show you, but they are a little difficult to make so it may take some time, and patience on my part XDDD
I've faved them so I can take a better look in the morning, AND because I like what I see so far
I think it'll turn into a Turbo Dust Bunny -- a dust bunny strengthened by beads and thread o.o;

Wow I looked at and faved all of them~!!!
A nice improvisation with the different types of green seed beads
The only thing I can recommend to help you further is to keep them holding their shape the best, is the point beads are thinner than the rest, and a few times more through the star with the thread helps hold it together : D
Thank you for giving me credit and thank you for trying out my pattern.
