Can we just take a moment to *chef's Kiss*. I am absolutely in love with everything about this piece. I will be loving and admiring that shading until the day I die. I am so unbelievably proud of this whole entire piece. I even like the background and that is very rare for me.
Story:
Karina sat in the stands and watched the Geldings show. She was seated in the top row, away from everyone else but where she could still see everything happening in the ring. The geldings had just started which meant she was going in about 3 hours. No one ever understands why she gets there so early, but she likes to watch, it helps her get a better feel for how the course rides. Plus the course walk was two hours earlier and now she is just bored.
Karina glanced over and saw Sylvia walking up the rows of seats. “Sylvia, never a pleasure, why are you bothering me this early?”
Sylvia sat down next to her niece. “Don’t be dramatic, I’m just making sure you know your course. Do you?”
“You mean have I forgotten it in the last two hours?” Karina leaned back in her seat. “No I have not.”
“Great, so why are you up here?”
Karina looked over at Sylvia, “it gives me some much needed peace and quiet and serenity before I go down there into the lion’s den as I like to call it. It’s a break before the crazy, which you so rudely interrupted. So why don’t you go back to the barn and leave me be.”
“Fine, I will leave you to your meditating.”
Karina rolled her eyes as Sylvia got up and walked back to the barn area.
After a few hours Karina got out of her seat and walked back to the barn. Amelia had Finn all tacked up and waiting in the cross ties. Karina walked up to her horse and gave him a kiss on the nose. The moody stallion threw his head up, just like he always does.
“Why do you do that, he clearly isn’t a fan?” Amelia asked.
“Its sort of a tradition for us, I kiss his nose for good luck and he throws his head up pretending to hate it, I think he actually loves it and just doesn’t want to say that. Is he ready to go?”
“Yup, we were just waiting on you.”
Karina smiled and walked her stallion down to the schooling arena. She got on and warmed up while Sylvia set up some practice jumps.
Karina jumped the first warmup jump, then went around and did it again, the distance was a little short but barely even noticeable.
“Stop, stop, stop, that was absolutely terrible, you are lucky that Finn didn’t throw you there,” Sylvia said.
“It wasn’t that bad-“
“Do it again and stop complaining.”
After a few more warmup jumps, and a lot of Sylvia yelling at Karina, they were finally ready to head into the arena. Karina trotted Finn into the arena and brought him back down to a walk. It was hot and she was already sweaty. “Only a few more minutes,” she said quietly while she was waiting for the buzzer. Once it had gone off Finn launched into a forward canter. They were both ready to get the round over with and return to the shade of the barns.
Karina turned toward fence one, found her distance, and let Finn charge up to it. They cleared it with room to spare and were off to jump two. They cut the turn two jump two tight to try and cut down their time, they flew over jump two and quickly turned to the next combination. They continued through the course cutting the turns to leave some seconds out of their time. They cleared all the jumps with room to spare. After they cleared jump 12 it took Karina a few seconds to get Finn to settle down so they could exit the arena.
As they walked out of the arena Sylvia was immediately walking next to them. “That was pretty average,” she said.
Karina knew the round was absolutely perfect but “average” was Sylvia’s form of a compliment.
“The distances were pretty atrocious, and you are very lucky Finn didn’t dump you half way through the course.”
Finn responded with a clearly annoyed snort and Karina couldn’t help but chuckle. “Thanks Sylvie,” she said before walking away from her trainer, eager to get back in the shade and get some water, or a lemonade.

I am even proud of the story. I am NEVER proud of my stories. Anyway, in this story you get a little look into what goes on inside Karina's head as well as her relationship with Sylvia, which is complicated, but you will learn more about why in the future.
