As someone with a disability and a user of a wheelchair for 27yrs, I have got to send my stamp of approval! lol! It's simple/to the point, cheeky, and easy to understand the message you're trying to give! AND the quote by Neil Marcus just hits the ball out of the park! I love your cartoons--you did a wonderful job, keep it up!

Thank you, I always hate it when others pity my little brother with a different heart and brain damage. But he's so much happier than the others around him, why can't that be considered a different and possibly better way to live?

In the TV studio where my sister worked, there was a random wheelchair. Sometimes we'd go in and play with it. It was a blast!

Nice drawing and nice message. It's so true. I have a friend who's deaf and has slight Asperger's Syndrome. She's only 16 but she just got into college and is getting a job. She's never let her disabilities stop her, and she does better than most normal people I know.

Guess I have to take the minority viewpoint on this one, but I can't say I'm very impressed by what you're trying to imply here.

Having a disabled mother and growing up around her disabled friends, I can honestly say that they would all prefer to not be disabled. Maybe there are some disabled folk who are proud to be the way they are, and more power to them for it. It's just that I've never met a disabled person who would turn down the opportunity to have more mobility and health. Don't forget that many disabled people (quadriplegics in particular) have serious medical conditions that significantly shorten their life expectancy. There's nothing "empowering" about having muscular dystrophy or needing a ventilator to keep you alive while you sleep.

I'm not trying to say that disabled people cannot live happy, fulfilling lives or be fun people. All too often, you hear the opposite. And if you knew disabled people, you'd know they often resent being called "courageous" or being looked at like heroes, because they'll tell you that they're just trying to live their lives the same as everybody else. But this whole, "wheee, you're just differently abled! Look at how much fun it is to not be able to walk!" is kind of taking it a little too far, don't you think? I don't think anyone would enjoy or prefer to have to have an attendant help them with everything they do, like going to the bathroom, cooling meals, or going to work, which is what a lot of disabled people face. And they deal with it the same way anybody deals with a disability: they just try to live their lives and be normal people as much as they can. They don't like to be talked down to or up to. Let's all just call it what it is and go on with our lives, shall we?

As for the design itself... The chair is stationary because the person who sits in it is *able* to get up and walk away. The wheelchair has to move because it's the only way the sitter can get around, having no other option. It's a cute concept, but I think you might not quite know what you're talking about.

Actually you're looking at it the wrong way, the chair and wheel chair are THE CHARACTERS, there are no people to sit on them, it's supposed to show you that sometimes there are advantages to certain circumstances and it's nice to look at things on the bright side every now and then. The wheelchair is often a symbol for the disabled, but look at what it can do and what the 'normal' chair can't. That's what the piece is about.
