Description The things I've seen made me be apathetic for the natural living.
The things I've seen took my soul into an unknown realms.
The things i've seen changed me into A cold person with no tears.
The things I've seen smashed my hopes into a corner with no returns.
The things I've seen forced me to walk inside of a darken walls.

From the things I've seen I prefer to close my eyes and to live inside an Eternal Dreams.

thank you dear neighbor.
I'm glad you like it.

to be honest this DOF went out not as I planned.
maybe it's ruin the picture in some people's eyes.
in mine it's what you said, force the viewer to take his attention to the beard and than to the eyes.

like a little play which affect each other and must combined both in order to win

this old man was sleeping while I took the picture.
I waited till he open eyes and I showed him the pic.

I love this. You see so often many portraits of old men but this one is decent!
The closed eyes, the expression of sigh, the folds [קמטים, זו המילה?] and most of all: the beard filling the space around him.. I can't tell exactly what is so good at this beard, but it makes the photo move, and it gives it life. And of course the b&w brings out all the emotion.
Another thing I must say, is that when I look at it it also seem sometimes like the model is dead now and resting in peace, after the thing he had seen. Who is the model btw? Someone you know?

NadavDov In reply to TaliN07 [2006-07-03 17:17:07 +0000 UTC]

Toda metoka.
the model is someone who got a little rest in A crowdy hot day in Tel aviv.
I was in the right place and on the right time.
I was rude enough and to shot him while he got some rest
I showed him the result later on.

He didn't like it much though...

I'm glad you like and happy you could feel what I felt.
Thank you

it's not like I'm like this all the time behind the camera.
I wish I will have it all the time.
I just have my days I guess...

This photo tells an incredible story and the words that you added to it put it across perfectly! Your pictures are so much more than just "photos". They have depth and meaning and leave the viewer with something to think about. The prose that you give us with the picture give us the viewpoint of the photographer...the one that provides the soul of the art. Without the prose the viewer has to assume what the photographer wants us to see...but I prefer seeing what you see. You are the father of your art...the art is your child...I want to see the child as you see it! There are plenty of photographers in the world that just take pictures and let the viewer interpret them...that is easy. Giving art a soul as you do is amazing! Your words are what make the difference. I respect the opinion of *FireAndFeathers* but respectfully disagree. If he doesn't want to see the heart of the work then he needs to ignore the prose...a description seems unnecessary to me...it is obvious what the photo is of...and old man with his eyes closed...but why his eyes are closed and what the age represents is amazing! Your talent extends way beyond the viewfinder of your camera! Thank you so much for sharing your heart with each shot! ...Anna

anna, what words...!
you said things I thought of within me.
my heart devoted to you today....beyond the support I see that you can feel me through the art and especially through my heart.

that's what I want.
photography isn't easy.
for each picture you can relate 1000 feelings, 1000 words, 1000 thoughts.
I just 1, with 1 mind, 1 heart, 1 thought.
I'm glad I can share with all of you.

for those who dissagree with the basic meaning of me, I can understand them.
as you said, for me photography is more than the viewfinder, more than the techniqal issues..
it's just something else that I feel and share.
for now, this is me.

in the future we'll see what will happen....
thank you again.
and than you 'FireAndFeathers' for being honest.
the important thing is to be true to your art.
the way will be showen to you by the years.

every obsticle just make us stronger.
believe, hold on and the success will come.
with words or without.
you are who you are....

I'm a bit over dramatic ha?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

FantomDroppings In reply to NadavDov [2006-04-05 19:41:41 +0000 UTC]

Not at all over dramatic! You actually understand what "art" is all about. It is individual and very subjective!
What moves one person will totally skip over the next person. That is typical of life.
What isn't typical is the ability to allow each person their own opinion, without feeling that they MUST see things the way YOU see them.
To allow each person to become who they are without restrictions.
To learn from everyone...even those that disagree with you.
To respect each persons art as being a part of who they are...even when it contradicts what makes your art special.
You understand what is necessary for man to live in peace. The world needs more minds and souls like yours!

I think it defiantely could've done without the text on the picture (something I hate) and the cheesy/pretentious prose in the description. would've traded it, infact, for a ...Description? i love this picture a lot though.. what an untouchable image, wow.

my style is to seek into A concept combined with my aspects, my thoughts, my words and my emotions that I felt before and after the shot.
I'm not trying to be cheesy or something.
just to share my thoughts with you.
some of it combined words and some visual aspects.

I respect you point of view but if you don't like there's nothing I can do, that's me.

take care and thank you for your words.

FireAndFeathers In reply to NadavDov [2006-04-02 23:30:48 +0000 UTC]

That's definately true, I respect artists that don't absorb everything people tell them and try to be popluar by changing their work so people like it, but I still feel quite strongly about the picture shouldn't have any words superimposed on it, the image, even the frame is like a sacred space which should only be the actual picture. Words can go beneath.. do you feel like the words ON the picture are actually part of the masterpiece itself?
I'm very impressed by your gallery by the way. I'm looking forward to finding some time to browse about in it some more. x

NadavDov In reply to FireAndFeathers [2006-04-03 17:40:39 +0000 UTC]

to be honest I'm not going 100% my way and I don't intend to do it.
I'm opening my mind into other's Art, Thoughts, ideas, critiques.
I try to varyed myself with every kind of photography and I hope to be able to do everything one day with an A echo of a concept behind the shot.

to tell you the truth - I once thought that a picture worth 1000 words and words dosen't need to be said after one picture... I still think that but I don't do that.
I seek for this in some styles I would like to experience in the future, such as street photography.

for now, the concept of my shots are made by my feelings giving to the title, to the shot, to the words.
for your question I can say one thing - Yes, I feel in most of my shots that words are crutial part of the whole piece that includes picture, emotions and words.

maybe it's wrong for some people and I can see why they think that.
for me, art is a combination of the artist's intentions, his interperation to a scene and his words that making it all into one piece to the viewer.

maybe I'm wrong, may I'm not.
art is like love.
it's never definite and it can change by a small breeze of wind.
for now my love going in one direction.
maybe the future will say other thing.
I'm open to everything

Thank you again and keep in touch mate.
I appreciate your words.

Do you know Magnum? They're an amazing collaboration of reportage photographers that have been going for decades, I grew up on them. I love the books I have of them but like you're kindof saying I wish they had more words, more context to put the picture into, because they're such huge stories that I don't know HOW you could fit in all the information into the picture, sometimes you need to know who this person is, or why they are doing something.. sometimes the mystery is also nice, but I think generally it is a good skill for a photographer to learn how to put as much information and story into a picture as possible, or at least know how to so they can control it.

NadavDov In reply to FireAndFeathers [2006-04-03 19:39:47 +0000 UTC]

you said the word - "Control" !
that's the main issue.

it's always nice to know the Behind the scene, but it's like magician.
you see the result and not often know how to do it.
it make it more beautiful and mysterious as you said.

one day we'll know how....
untile then we both have something to think about
