Shadow's keyblade chose her after she accidentally was anointed by Sora in her interdimensional endeavors, he had attacked her after mistaking her for a heartless and she had caught the blade with her hand. After this, a keyblade chose her, but she was already coursing with immense power of darkness, however she had such control over it without letting it consume her, the keyblade saw she was unique and stayed with her. Over time, it ended up melding with the darkness within her, causing it to shift in properties and appearances, making Shadow the first ever dark entity to be chosen by a light keyblade. And in turn it became the first keyblade of it's kind: A dark keyblade with light in it's core.
