Dear gracious. XD
Anyways. Here's a doodly picture depicting three of the characters from my werewolf group, each representing a different type of were.
The first one, Rayanne ("Ray") is what they call a "born were"--aka a totally normal one. Both her parents were weres, she's a were, and she has full control over her shifting abilities. The moon doesn't affect her.
Skipping the center, Aruay, for now because it makes more sense if I explain Nikkah first.
Nikkah is what's known as a "trad", which is the weres' slang for "traditional werewolf". Within the weres' gene pool lurks a recessive gene--the "trad" gene--which governs a certain hormone. All weres have this hormone; it helps them shift. However, having the trad gene causes the hormone production to malfunction, in a way, and once a month release much more than normal. This forces the trad to shift halfway, and unlike normal transformations, the excess of the hormone makes it painful. Their struggle against it only increases the pain and causes them to loose their "human" conscience, rampaging and often killing all in sight. Though the transformations don't always land on a full moon, some of the most well-known accounts have, thus leading to the werewolf legends and why this type is called "traditional" werewolves.
This is where Aruay comes in.
Aruay is a "made" were. She was born a human (though made weres can also be born as wolves), but was attacked by a trad in the midst of its transformation. When a trad is transformed, they have a lot of the hormone in rushing through their body--and that includes an oddly high concentration in their saliva. When bitten, the hormone enters the victim's body through the saliva and attacks the body. If the victim survives, the presence of the hormone in their body gives them the ability to shift, thus technically turning them into a were, and clusters of it work almost as its own organism, planting somewhere in the victim's body and producing a place where more of the hormone can be produced. Not a lot, but enough to allow the victim to shift like a normal were...almost. Because their bodies are unused to this hormone, they tend to struggle slightly against the strong substance, thus preventing them from shifting fully back to their original forms. Hence Aruay's more canine-like features.
Though, note: just because these particular characters look the way they do doesn't mean that all weres of that type look the same. Not all born weres are Chinese, not all made weres have Aruay's exact canine features, not all trads are tall and blonde, etc. Those traits are all specific to the character, not the type.
Yay. 8D
