Wow its been a while since I have done some Pirate fanart! Yesterday (and today) I was feeling very low. Missing my papa something awful and generally having "one of THOSE days" where everything just seemed to have been against me.So I drew this while I was at work at Disney and I am quite happy with the outcome! Even my teacher likes it, he says I have beautiful illustrations and line work.
Anyways, this is Jack Sparrow and *le gasp* PIRATE Captain James Norrington! I had this lovely idea that after he is exiled from the Navy, he does pick himself off of the dirty floor of self resentment and becomes another one of those regal and epic pirate captains of the Spanish Main.
He has a ship of his own (Called the Serafina) and he is known to be a fiercely talented captain. He definitely travels in style with his embroidered focks and giant hats.
He's traveled on board the Black Pearl with a map and a bag of gold dubloons, I think he's trying to conspire Jack to help him out in some kind of scheme. He's more like the Batman of the ocean, taking out baddies for the Royal Navy but still has a target painted on his head.

Looks great, and Captain James Norrington's story backround sounds just as awesome. The expression on Jack Sparrow's face is priceless, then again I'd probably feel the same way if I were in his position. lol

Thanks, when I first started the picture I was just doing it so that James could look regal and bad ass but still scheme with Jack Sparrow, bribing him with a map or something. I like my James to be honor bound and loyal and basically in the Navy. I like to see him get back the dignity he deserves. But the more I think of this Batman of the high seas, the more this sounds like something he would do too! Im kind of falling in love with regal-pirate!Norrington

This is pretty sweet. I was going to protest the idea of him being a pirate until I read the Batman (omfg Dark Knight *spaz*) bit. That does seem like something he would do-- if he couldn't go back to his former life, he'd do what he could to help the good guys.
And, uh, I like the drawing too. xD

yeah, Im actually a hard-core Norrington fan, and I like it when, be it in fanfiction or in fanart, that when he falls he picks himself up to be something bigger and better than before. I LIKE him being honor bound. I like him wearing the jackets of the blue. On a normal day, hells no James would not ever be a pirate! But I also think do what you can, with what you have, where you are. And if that means being a pirate, at least he can be the Batman of the seas

Actually, the more I think about the idea, the more I like it. Him going to Beckett never sat right with me-- it just seemed too OOC, even if he did redeem himself in the end (only to die ;_; ).

yeah, but really - by that time (in PotC world) he had worked himself into a corner. And you realize of course, that him going to Beckett and joining the EITC was like... the honorable and moral thing to do, if we viewers were in the position of the civilians. If we were civilians watching this then hells yeah, we'd hate pirates, we'd think he's a hero because he managed to survive living with pirates AND come back unscathed! It is only because we have sympathy to the pirates (who are in no need of sympathy... bastards god I love them) that we think of James as a backstabber. We think him wrong for helping Beckett.
As Jack Sparrow put it "They do whats right by them"

No, I definitely agree with that. I guess my main problem isn't with him "betraying" Jack and them-- it's that Beckett was so obviously corrupt, and he didn't make an effort to stop him sooner.

I never thought that James 'betrayed' Jack Sparrow myself, he never said "I promise to never give the heart to Beckett" or anything like that. He was a man doing what he could to save himself. There was nothing dishonest with that

Yes, definitely-- James and Jack never had much, if any, trust between them, so I don't really get why people tend to rant about his "betrayal" of a group of pirates who a) were not that nice to him, b) were criminals, and c) had no trust / respect (mutual or otherwise) for him. I do understand the concern about him abandoning Elizabeth and even Will, but I think it was IC at the time. I just wish he'd turned against Beckett sooner. Maybe he would have actually lived (curse you, Ted and Terry!).

*cries* oh ye gods dont get me started on the subject of him dying. When I saw the movie I nigh walked out of it on that part because I was so distraught. bastards grr... Anyways, I agree with you - he never needed to show trust in those characters. He never received any trust from them! And I completely understand him dropping Elizabeth and Will. Actually, if I were he I would have washed my hands clean of them long before hand.

I cling to the hope that since there was a green flash at the end, which should only occur when a soul comes back from the Locker (right?), that Will brought him back. Somehow. For some reason. >.> Flimsy, I know, but... ;_;

no, its not flimsy! It very well can happen because it was never said it could NOT happen! God I love fannon just for this, I swear. I have it in my mind that after all was said and done in AWE that Will Turner hears of the heroism that James had done to save Elizabeth and brings him back to life (because that IS canon!)to not only life the rest of his life but to also provide and care for Elizabeth since Will, of course, cannot do that till 10 years are up. (and then James and Elizabeth elope and run away and thats actually HIS child at the end of the movie and poor Will is left at the beach by himself 10 years later and has to go back to the sea again muahahaha....)

The child is SO named James. That I certainly agree about.
Sparrington is actually my pairing of choice because he is the only person I feel is worthy to be with him. But Im ok with Norribeth because, well, whatever it takes to make James happy, makes me happy. And if he wants to be happy with a woman that has destroyed his life and the lives of all the civilians of Port Royal (vicariously) then I'll accept his choice, even if I dont approve of it

As long as she did him right and dropped the whole "I'm a Pirate King!" thing, then I'd be happy for him. Sparrington... hmmm. I'm iffy about it, but if it's written well then I'll go along (actually, I'm that way about pretty much every pairing, lol). I heard about Norrington x Anamaria, and that sounded like it could work. Gillington is pretty cute, too.

Funny story - when I first got into reading Pirates stuff, the only pair that I was REMOTELY interested in was Jack and Will Turner. It was only by pure chance that I went to a website where they had all these stories written out by pairing and Jack x Will was underneath Jack x Norrington. I accidentally clicked on the 'Jack x Norrington' instead and I thought, well hell, since Im here might as well check it out.
Im so glad I did. Since that day I've never gone back... I dont even LOOK at William anymore (it doesnt help that he was already a very weak character). Another pairing that I think is very cute and very good is Groves x Gillette. They are sooo cute together 
I've actually read a really good Anamaria/Norrington story! I can't remember how it went though... I just remember it was very good.

Thanks very much! Yeah, I don't really mind mature ratings as long as it's all for the sake of furthering plot / developing characters (i.e. not sex for the sake of sex). So I should be okay with whatever's in there. After all, I am an active participant in the Internets, so I'm not exactly innocent.
