Description
This was inspired by and partially referenced from a photoshoot of the vocalist of Rentrer en Soi, one of my favorite bands, found in a fashion magazine. (link) I've had the photo on my desktop for ages, and I kept thinking how I'd love to paint it. So I did. ;] It's not really a fanart as it's not meant to be the vocalist, but it's definitely a tribute to a band and genre I love. I play Rentrer en Soi a lot when I paint.I wanted to transform the character in the photo into my own image. I can’t stand when people fill their galleries with images copied straight off photos with nothing of themselves added in. Hopefully I did not fall victim to that. Did a lot of experimentation with color, light, and depth on this one.

Very beautiful work; androgynous and mysterious, I like it very much. His expression is so... sad, somehow, but also not, and his skin looks so porcelain-like... it's gorgeous.

Holy shit! I love this. I am a big fan of Frank Frazetta, but this is right down my alley. Did you use oils?

No, this was painted in Photoshop with a Wacom tablet; it's 100% digital.

holy shit.... You are fuckin awesome. You recreated a total oil style with photoshop. *bows down before you cause he's not worthy* I am good at pencil and charcoal, but I have never seen someone do this good with a computer before. Kudos to you. Later.

Glad to hear that; I'm trying to make my stuff look more painterly. I can't use oils, though--only acrylics, and I'm no where near this skill level with traditional paint. Colors are so different coming out of tubes instead of picking them on a slidebar, hahah.

Yeah, I know what you mean. Paints can be a pain in the ass. It took me a year to become steady enough to draw a completely fluent straight line with any brush. People would think that that is easy, but when you actually try to, it's hard as hell. You have to keep constant pressure and you can't waver from side to side. Just try doing that with actual oils and you are in a whole new ball park.

I really like the calm expression on his face, when the atmosphere doesn't seem so calm and easy. Good piece.

I really would like to write something intelligent, but I´m not the person who can write so much about art... I´m sorry about that... I only can say your art is fantastically. It´s all you do a new something, I mean all we see is something new, not something we saw before. This is fantastically too. I love the person inherently because he is so detailed and painted with lots of love, I think so... It´s wonderful that you wrote you wanted to add something by you, I think you are write with that!! Yes you see, nothing intelligent what I wrote, but the finished pic is wonderful made!!
