Description Stage 1, using Marc's method. Here it's all about composition. The camera angle and basic elements have already been chosen in the thumbnail, so now I'm setting up the composition to convey depth and storytelling, using the overlapping and placement of elements. I had to darken this a lot in photoshop, but keep in mind that this is all very lightly sketched in with a 2H lead holder.

The only perspective here is the eye line. As long as you have the eye line, you can eyeball the perspective for compositional purposes. You'll see a real perspective grid in the later stages, but this method prevents you from doing more work than necessary, and from putting grid lines where your figure work is going to go.

In the first one, I just blocked out the shapes. Satisfied with the basic arrangement, I moved on to the second one where I manipulate the gestures to move the reader's eye in certain directions. I also did some hard erasing in the second one, removing any excess noise from the interior of the figures There are some basic silhouettes that I'm getting here, and a tiny bit of proportion, just to make sure everything has a place to go in the next stage.

Next Stage: Drawing Gestures and structure.

Ah, good. Keep these going;} I love the nuts and bolts of sequential work. I wish I'd had time to really hang out with Marc and learn the craft.....
