Here is the astrometrics lab located behind the bridge on the Miranda 2.0 class, Ursa Major and Ursa Minor classes. Not JJ's Enterprise would be modeled a bit differently.

The wrap around screens are holographic 3 dimensional images that are interactive like the stellar cartography lab on the Enterprise-D from Star Trek: Generations.

I think the screens works like today's holograms:

Only somehow the object beam doesn't need an object reference, and can be re-projected from one millisecond to the next -- or at least 24 fps.

Don't ask me how. If I knew, I'd be rich and I wouldn't try to crowdfund our move to Nova Scotia:

Anyways, in the ceiling are the 3D laser projectors to give the lab both an old fashioned look while still being futuristic by our standards, yet still primitive to TNG standards. And hoping with red, green and blue, full colour holograms.

And when I say old fashioned, I mean like the projector we saw with Lex Luthor when he sees Superman carry the nuke into space from Superman: The Movie (1978):

I know there's 3D TVs today, but their capabilities are limited:

And in astrometrics, they would be pointless unless there's an A.I. tracking your movements shifting the 3D TV lines and there's only 1 technician.

The centre has an actual holographic generator to look at regions of space, star systems or planets and moons from all vantage points.

Like on TNG, seasons 1 and 2. I miss that.

The central controls mostly controls the screens and holographic generator while the aft station does the processing.
