Description
"Let's go home..."The silance that filled the caverns was deafening.
Eyes wandered left and right, taking in the carnage left from all of the fighting, but not really seeing anything. Shock ran like ice in the veins of trainers and Pokemon alike. Not only had the fight been lost, but the sight of the Darkrai upon it's escape had
Slowly, the mist cleared from minds and bodies began to pick themselves and others up and crawl from the caves back into an uncertain and unforgiving world.
Lynn had only taken a few of her Pokemon with her, knowing that many of the others were young, inexperienced, and generally in no shape to fight. She had only Maybelle, Shamrock, and Iota at her side upon leaving. As far as she knew, everyone else was safe and sound at the ranch, and she was ready at all points in the battle to tell her crew to run away if things got too ugly. When Maybelle ran off during the fighting, Lynn thought that she might have lost her for good. Maybelle was wild before getting to the ranch, and part of Lynn had always wondered whether or not the raichu would someday wander off again. But not during a fight like this.
Iota too had vanished into the fight. He had been a sight to behold in the chaos of the battle- wings flared and flashed of bright yellow and blue lightning chasing away any remnants of shadows in the usually dark caves. But after Darkrai's release, the one-eyed storm beast was no where to be found. Although concerning, Iota was never officially a ranch Pokemon, and as such could go wherever he pleased.
A soft pressure against her leg had pulled Lynn from her stunned state. Shamrock, the only Pokemon Lynn still had at her side, collapsed down to the stone floor, exhausted. Eyes blinking, the trainer knelt next to her starter and went over his injuries.
"It's alright," she whispered quietly, "We're gonna be okay."
Shamrock was pretty beat up. Most of it was just bruises and scratches that would heal over the next few days, but his left leg had a deep puncture wound from one of the Blood Moon Flaaffy's raptor-like claws. A dark burn spot was also visible on his bulb, crumbling through the green leafy layer into the delicate flower forming inside.
"Let's get you patched up."
Lynn had grabbed a handful of bandages and a bottle of water before leaving the cabin. Quietly, hands shaking and still numb from the sudden loss of adrenaline, she rinsed his puncture and dressed it loosely. She bandaged a few bleeding scratches too, before kneeling and holding her starter close. With the tension of the fight gone, pain and fear settled back into both of them as they sat on the cold stone floor.
It was Shamrock who had first noticed Maybelle and Harley, crumpled in a corner on the other side of the large cavern. Harley had been backed into the small corner back in part two, and the pair was still over there, somewhat displaced from the main cavern where the fight was occurring. Maybelle was still standing, mostly, looking around the room with her one open eye. When she caught sight of Shamrock and Lynn, her ears perked.
The bulbasaur pushed himself upright and started in the direction of his friends, but his injured leg buckled in pain and exhaustion. Lynn caught him as he slumped, but followed his line of sight to the shiny raichu. She pulled Shamrock up in an instant, wincing at her own wounds, and carried him quickly across the cave to Maybelle and Harley.
Blood poured from a deep gash in Maybelle's head, running over her eye and staining her usually light colored fur. Her fur was ruffled, matted, and torn, her skin coated in bruises and burns, but she was standing. Harley was not, having been hit hard into one of the rocks along the wall, and likely bruised or broken a rib. He breathed slow and loud, but stirred when Lynn scooped him from the ground. She pulled Shamrock and Maybelle close as well.
The four sat there, on the ground in the cold, dark, damp, caves until most of the fighters had left. The echoing drips of water somewhere kept the time as it passed with every drip, drip, drip.
"Thank Arceus you're okay."
