~~The Patient~~\\A groan of tedium escapes me
Startling the fearful\\
\"I seek peace!!\" screamed Vincent internally; he wouldn\'t dare speak out loud now, no - not now. Besideds, the silence had lain unbroken for so long, why break it when its comfort was the only thing keeping old demons at bay.
\\Is this a test? It has to be,
Otherwise I can\'t go on.\\
\"I seek peace within this emptiness...\" he closed his eyes and inhaled deeply, tasting the bittersweet pain of Chaos\' dominance over his now frail mind.
\\Draining patience, drain vitality.
This paranoid, paralyzed vampire act\'s a little old.\\
\"Peace is not something easily won,\" whispered the beast. Vincent seemed to take no notice but replied all the same.
\"Yes...I know. I\'ve sought it for thirty-four years and gained none.\"
\"Do you know why mmy friend?\" it cackled but the man wasn\'t moved.
\"Because I don\'t deserve it.\" Now the thing was laughing uproariously.
\\But I\'m still right here
Giving blood, keeping faith
And I\'m still right here.\\
\"No...of course you don\'t deserve it! You\'re just a sniveling excuse for a man! A monster! You\'re just a monster!\"
\\Wait it out
Gonna wait it out
Be patient (wait it out)\\
Vincent shifted in his resting place, the spot he had been afraid to leave for over three decades.
\"A monster?\" There was a long deliberation in which Chaos grew impatient.
\"You\'ve killed innocents without mercy and you still believe you hold the fragments of humanity... ...how pitiful.\" Vincent didn\'t speak.
\\If there were no rewards to reap
No loving embrace to see me through.\\
\"I know what you\'re thinking my friend. You think that foolish girl restored your innocence! HA!! That girl did nothing to save you! She couldn\'t even save herself!\" the beast snickered in the darkness. \"And all you did was sit around blaming nameless faces when she died!\" There was still no reply from Vincent and he would have appeared dead if it werent for the steady rising and falling of his chest, but he might as well be dead anyway.
\\This tedious path I\'ve chosen here,
I certainly would have walked away by now
Gonna wait it out.\\
\"Why don\'t you just give up? You can\'t bring her back no matter how hard you try.\"
\\If there were no desire to heal
The damaged and broken met along
This tedious path I\'ve chosen here
I certainly would\'ve walked away by now.\\
\"Oh, I see. You wish to atone for your faults through someone else\'s pain! Heheheh...that\'s just like you...I can see the monster in you, and yet you still cling to innocence like a child to a security blanket! Why don\'t you let it go now?\"
\\And I still may...*sigh*...I still may.\\
\"Don\'t worry! It\'ll only hurt for a little while...\"
\\Be patient.
I must keep reminding myself of this.\\
Suddenly the voices lowered to a soft hiss, echoing around Vincent\'s mind like the remnants of thunder in a snow filled sky.
\"People are coming! Do it now!!\"
\\If there were no rewards to reap
No loving embrace to see me through
This tedious path I\'ve chosen here
I certainly would\'ve walked away by now.
And I still may...\\
The door to the basement crypt creaked open slowly, revealing the face of a young man with mako-stained blue eyes.
\"Foolish boy!\" Chaos screames and tore his claws down in front of Vincent\'s eyes, blinding them from the partial transformation, but the moment soon passed and he was once again a man, but the outburst didn\'t go unnoticed. The blue-eyed stranger edged his way around the central coffin, watching it warily, and when it had not moved for several minutes he knocked on the lid.
\"It\'s too late now...hehehehe...maybe another day no? Just wait, there\'ll be other chances.\" The beast smiled wickedly and slithered off into a darker recess of Vincent\'s mind and waited there for it\'s next oppertunity, but for now, the man was safe.
\\Gonna wait it out.\\
He opened his eyes slowly to the sound of another rap on the wooden lid, a sound he had not heard for far too many years. Carefully, after a long moment in which the silence settled again and temporary comfort reigned once more, he removed the lid and tasted the slightly fresher air of the basement.
\"Who are you?\" Vincent\'s nonchalant disposition and crimson eyes frightened the stranger, but at last he spoke.
\"I\'m Cloud...Cloud Strife.\"
\\Gonna wait it out...\\

Hn, interesting. Don't know the song but it seems to be pretty fitting here.
